UNCheat with more $$

I lived in Charlotte for 30 years, the place is run by their alum.
In no time I became an "anybody but carolina guy".

Over decades they have always brought in above average talent, but something always goes wrong.
They don't care as long as they have basketball (now also crap).

If their NIL goes from 4 to 20 to buy players, how much of that goes to basketball?
Belichick is not yet done with his NFL career, will bail if an opportunity arrives.
He is surely an organizational wizard and intends to hire better coaches to run the team.

I am a fan of him, but suspect as to this hire.

Belichick is done with the NFL.

The bball program will get their money. They have just made a big commitment to their football. Kudos to them. I think it will work at least for the next 5 years

The NFL might be done with him, but the reverse is not true.
He is a wealthy man in no need of money except for validation.
He is 2nd in wins behind Shula and would like to have a shot at that.

Well that’s pure speculation on your part. He stays at Unc for 5 years and then you think he goes back to the NFL as a head coach at 78 even though no NFL team will currently hire him?

Gonna have to disagree with you on that one

I don't think he stays 5 years, maybe one.

I bet he has it written into his contract, he doesn't even have to show up in

Chapel Hill if an NFL team with a chance to get 16 wins in a couple years comes calling. That's all he wants, is Don Shula's record.

if that was true, he would have kept himself available

I'm sure he would love that win record, but now he knows he won't get it. That ship has sailed and he is too old to be a head coach in the NFL. Why do you think anyone will all of a sudden decide to hire him later?

I think a lot of people on the board are scared that he will be at unc for 5 years and that he just might do very well considering the resources he will have available.

Thus all the posts trying to convince themselves he won't.

An NFL team will have to pay an enormous buy-out to UNC for Belichik to return to the NFL.

As you suggested, this must happen sooner (I.e., after one or two seasons … no later) for the NFL team in question to make this expensive move.

Just me, but I just cannot fathom this happening.

Wild card: How will Belichik deal with UNC academic powers (admin and non-sports related donors) when a UNC portal player puts pics of his teammates’ dinks on the internet? In the NFL, this wouldn’t be a big deal. At haughty totty UNC, this (maybe) wouldn’t be tolerated. UNC starts losing games because Belichik’s mercenary portal players get booted or long-term suspensions?

I doubt Belichik handles this well, and the adjustment process will be slower and more painful than he’s anticipating.

Not sure if accurate but I read on a UNC site that the buyout is only like 1 million dollars after next season, so if something comes along that BB likes he can easily leave and then anoint his son as the savior of their program.

CHAPEL HILL, NC — The Tar Heels athletic department was on the brink of pulling off a huge coup this week, as legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick reportedly agreed to take the University of North Carolina head coaching position on the condition that he can live in his girlfriend's dorm.

The coach who led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl championships had been in discussions with UNC leadership about the possibility of taking over the school's football program, with the only remaining detail left to be ironed out having to do with whether he would be allowed to share his girlfriend's dorm room.

"We're working on accommodating Coach Belichick and the young woman we mistakenly thought was his grand-daughter," said UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham. "We are more than willing to do whatever it takes to bring in such a legendary football coach. If that means granting his girlfriend a full-ride scholarship and allowing them to live together in her dorm, then so be it. We are also prepared to offer her cotton candy, roller skates, and anything else a young lady her age might want."

At publishing time, UNC officials had reportedly sweetened the deal by informing Belichick that he and his girlfriend could both eat near campus for low prices by combining her student discount with an early bird senior citizen meal.

You asked how much money will go to basketball. No idea but my theory is his hire has as much to do with basketball as it does football. Maybe I’m completely wrong on that. But I think UNC sees football rich SEC schools suddenly being able to kick butt at basketball “recruiting” while the Heels are losing out to those zero history basketball programs. In other words, big football money funds the other sports in this crazy new system.
