Holy crap! Not sure how I never heard of this until now.

Good job to her. It has to be incredibly tough raising 4 children under those circumstances.

And I also gained a new-found respect for Hopkins. That must have been terrible seeing that as a 12-year old. Appears he made it through with flying colors.

OMG! This is a beautiful story about DeAndre's mom. DeAndre is such a humble person and God has some good things in store for him, his mother and the rest of his siblings. Stories like this give people hope who may not be going through the same thing but that may have other negative situations in their lives. DeAndre keep loving your mom and I promise you God will continue to bless you and others through you!

I am shocked that I hadn't heard this story either. Seems like a story that would have been shared through the Clemson community. Nuk must have not wanted it publicized and the staff honored it? Nuk always seemed to be more quiet and guarded, he let his play speak for him. Crazy story!

I heard this for the first time just recently. Don't know how it hasn't been talked about a lot! Can you image the impact this must have had on DeAndre as a 12 year old boy? I know that I would have been filled with rage but somehow he became focused on his goals and hard work. Bless this family!

I remember being horrified at the attack, but at that time the victim's privacy would have been protected. I never realized before that this was Nuk's mom. She must be an amazing lady to come through such an ordeal and keep her family on track.

I must be cutting onions; what a powerful story

What happened to Nuk's mom has been mentioned before,
but not with much detail. She's a really strong woman.
Her family must be extremely proud of her and love her
as much as she loved them.

I have heard Sabrina's story before, but not told by her. Powerful.

The question is..why did the lady throw that stuff in her face? The answer may be why is wasnt talked about. If what I heard is true, she made a big mistake and the other lady made her pay for it. If you catch my drift

I don't think the acid thrower was justified. I consider that cruel and unusual punishment.

I remember hearing about this a while back. It is no wonder DeAndre is as strong and focused and determined as he is. She won.
