Wait a minute... Our head coach would take sorry tackling? Poor angles? Slow receivers? Mental mistakes? every time????
Maybe I'm wrong, or misunderstood his comments... I'm not a coach. but I do have eyes. If Saban's team played a game and had those types of numbers and still won, he would STILL be TICKED OFF!
Maybe I'm wrong... but what a dumb thing to say out loud!

I took his comments to mean "winning every metric" but also citing that they need to finish drives so what happened Monday night doesn't occur again.
I watched the interview yesterday -- it's clear he ain't no dummy. Folks are cherry picking his quotes and framing it in a way that makes it seem like he is oblivious but IMO he's pretty clear and correct.
If Clemson wins every metric that matters and scores TDs... they'll win almost every game.
Yet, you'll have people argue that he's doubling down on a terrible performance and that Dabo thinks 7 points is a great thing. He knows it's not.
Obviously, points are the name of the game and hopefully what happened Monday night doesn't continue to happen the rest of the year.
Here's to seeing this team turn it around to make something out of a disappointing start 🤞

Duke was a good team last year. They are a good team this year. We shouldn’t have lost, but we did … to a good team.

So what’s your answer fire Dabo coz he does not have coaching ability hires a great OC & then Dabo wants to calll the plays & knows nothing about offensive plays & paying this oc mega bucks. Dabo just lines to be in control & it’s not working.

Dabo has really lost this program. Clemson is terrible right now, there's no way the players believe a word he says. This is a bad team. Monday night's effort was embarrassing, the play calling was atrocious. Cade isn't very good.

Hold on a min brother, Dabo was specifically talking about TWO offensive stats. 200+ yards rushing and 200+ yards passing. That is all. Clemson football had NEVER lost a game when they've had those stats in a game. So, yeah Dabo would take his chances with those numbers again and again. I would too. It really just goes to show you how much of an anomaly the Duke loss was, if anything.

So an anomaly was that thing they talked about in The Hunt for Red October, but Duke was wearing blue! I just love analogies!

Dabo does not have control of the team. The term "locker room" comes up too often. Elite coaches don't let the players run the team. Dabo showed his loss of control when he folded on the social media ban and put BLM emblems on helmet. Nick and Kirby didn't allow the BLM emblem. I guarantee you Dabo didn't want it either, but he did not have the control to prevent it. For the record, I don't care what political emblem it was, unless it's a USA flag or Palmetto flag, it does not belong on a Tiger uniform.

We didn’t hire him for his X’s and O’s coaching prowess. From day 1 he’s always been a rah-rah guy, who was a good, positive person and a leader more than a coach. That was fine when we were winning, but for better or worse, that doesn’t fly when we lose games like Monday. That’s not an opinion one way or the other on Dabo, but that’s who he’s always been.

You Know What I Will Take Every Week?

I will take Jeff Scott running the offense and Brent Venables running the defense every week. With those two we win games that count and don't lose games to teams that we were supposed to beat by 2 TDs. We also recruited once in a generation player-types to the roster.
However, the sky is not falling and Dabo does not take failure lying down. If he's proved anything to the fan base over the past 15 years, it's that he knows how to win Championships. Not many teams in the nation can claim a National Title in the playoff era, much less two Titles in the same era. Again, the Sky is not falling and despite what pundits like Finebaum say, it is far from over. Dabo will realign his approach if necessary and will win championships again. MARK MY WORDS! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

When Scott and Elliot were co-cordinators, Eliot called the run plays, Scott called the pass plays. They said that a thousand times.
Either way, I'd love to have Scott back as a coach. If not Offense or Co-offemse, at least get him back ad our WR coach until Gatret or Dabo move on. I'd love to see him be groomed to be our next head coach honestly.

Yep Dabo hates losing! More than we even know I'm sure of it. He will not let his program die.
I'd love to see Jeff Scott coaching WRs next year and as an associate head coach/recruiting coordinator type role.

Even TNET goes for clickbait he’s talking about rushing /passing for 200yds which usually ends up in good performance. He clearly said the name of the game is points but who wouldn’t take 200 through the air and ground every week?

One thing that stuck out to me was he said toughness and physicality... that was one of my complaints, I thought we weren't physicak enough. Maybe I'm just used to seeing linebackers play with their hair on fire. I miss those violent Skalski and Boulaware hits. Granted Skalski got half game suspensions every other game for his form, his hits were there. We used to fly to the ball. Monday vs Duke, we weren't swarming, there was a lot of waiting for him to make that cut then react.

everything is fine according to Dabo! The offense that scored 7 points and turned it over 3 times is fine, no need to use the transfer portal, the players are in place on this roster and just fine, our kicker is fine too, didn't you hear he hit a 70-yarder in practice, he can't hit a 22-yarder in a game, but wow he can boot them in practice.
He is getting more stubborn and out of touch with every comment he makes. Everyone can see it's all just lies and propaganda. Delusion is how empires crumble and this one is just about at it's breaking point if not already past it. Wow!!!

Nobody said it was fine for including Dabo, don’t have orange tinted glasses I just watched the interview. He said he would take 200yds on the ground/air every week which most people would that’s a stat that will win you a lot of games. He also said it doesn’t matter when the name of the game is points. But sure just imply everyone thinks it’s all fine 👍👍👍

Dabo is delusional now coz he’s worried about the big salary he won’t have. Some if the things that comes out if hus mouth I just shake my head. And we’re paying Riley salary but Dabo won’t let him actually takeover offend. And Godwin needs to go to &Grisham & maybe Spiller too. Clean house.

No one has suggested that we beat Duke because 200 yards each in run game and pass game outweighs scoring fewer points than the opponent.
Dabo said that he’ love for the team to, every week, have offense output of 200 yards each for run & pass.
Dabo also said we must make our 6 inch putts. FYI, that is a golf metaphor that translates into meaning that when our offense gets deep into the red zone with a full complement of downs (I.e., on first down), then we should score points. To carry forth with the golf metaphor, we did the equivalent of missing the 6 inch putt and then whacking the ball off the green and into the lake.
Oh that Dabo, always talking in riddles.

Stats not that great

Sep 7, 2023, 3:09 PM

The problem is, when we Clemson fans are used to QB's routinely posting 300+ yards passing stats with a 100+ yard WR, per game. What we saw Monday wasn't that great. We used to be so good that a few miscues would not doom us. Monday they did. If we want to be average Monday w/o the fumbles is fine. But we want to be great again.

Our chances of becoming great again on offense will improve when those two stud WR recruits enroll here.
As much as we wish it were true, neither we nor any other CFB program are entitled to having every recruiting class’ highly rated skill players working out to be All American performers on the field.
Our incredible streak of having at least one super stud WR on the team … starting with DeAndre Hopkins’ arrival in 2010 and concluding with Amari Rodgers’ departure at end of 2020 season … was a gift of fate. We are not entitled to be that fortunate.
Looking forward, we have a foundation of one excellent receiver and several other WRs with genuine potential to be very good. If either (or both) of the recruits turn out to be immediate impact players, then we’ll all get to privilege of witnessing the gift of synergy again in The Valley.
Until then, let’s enjoy some blue collar football wins.

He’ll take our offensive performance against Duke every week? What? You know who wouldn’t in the same circumstances? Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, Mike Norvell (and probably Shane Beamer). For them the only “metrics” that count are scoring points and winning games. This attitude by an admittedly fine man who led Clemson to unparalled success reinfoces the reality that our program is at a crossroads, as NIL and the Portal dramatically change the college game. Which fork in the road will we take? Toward a solid football program that emphasizes compassion and character development for the young men who play for us, but never sees the playoffs again; OR, a program that embraces the new reality, uses the Portal, and fires assistant coaches who are good old boys rather than creative, demanding shapers of talent? You are our supreme leader, Dabo. Which way will you take us?

He said he will SPECIFICALLY take rushing for 200 and passing for 200 every week. Not the turnovers, not the poor red zone performance, nothing else.
There are people here just waiting, PRAYING for statements like this from Dabo, just so they can hop on here and spew vitriol on quotes taken out of context (to the context point, shame on you, David). There's obviously a lot to fix but y'all aren't even reading or listening to everything that's said.
Bunch of fair-weather trash. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised; chickens can't read articles, can they?

I realize I’m cherry picking the timeframe and incorporating last year’s team, but aren’t we 1-3 in our last four games? Wouldn’t trade Dabo for any other coach and I know he rightly trusts his process, but the results are undeniably beginning to trend down.

You’d NEVER hear Saban or Kirby find this kind of performance acceptable and be pleased with it! Never.

In Saban’s first season at Alabama (2007), his response to criticism about Bama’s loss to Louisiana Monroe was ‘it is what it is.’
Bama fans were livid; Sabin was a highly experienced and (justifiably) respected coach by then, and were starting with the ‘hot seat’ talk after Bama’s overall record of 7 - 6 for 2007.
The point here is that fans get emotional after a loss. That’s all good, since FB is an exciting (I.e., emotional) experience.
It’s just that, after the games / seasons are finished, we’ve got to tamp down on the emotional aspect and amp up the analytical aspect.
We should be into the analytical aspect of reviewing the Duke game by now.

The sky is falling......
Many good people on here but SO MANY chicken littles....
You think because you have this gift of rationality or inside knowledge or something... hell, I don't know what it is....
But I know this. Thank God you're not running this team.
I don't like everything Dabo says... at all. But I'm not on the inside.... you aren't either.
The man has way more than earned the benefit of the doubt.

I know would have had a new receiver coach by end of ‘21 season, Goodwin up in the booth, with a butt kicker DC from OUTSIDE the family tree on the sideline.

The problem with that line of thinking is we struggled to throw the ball and Duke committed only limited resources to defending our WR's. There were essentially no explosives in the passing game. If we can't be explosive, we'll be forced to sustain long drives to score. That means there are more opportunities for something to derail those potential scoring drives (i.e, turnovers, penalties, sacks/TFL's), which is exactly what we saw Monday night. If we can't figure out a way to have a more explosive passing offense, we will really struggle to beat the better teams on our schedule and we'll allow less talented teams to stay in games with us. This reminds me a lot of the 2021 season but without as dominant of a defense.

Duke’s resources for defending against our passing game was to concentrate their zone to limit opportunities for over-the-middle routes. They scouted us well and apparently recognized that G.Riley’s scheme is heavy on utilizing over-the-middle passes.
We are not so good at deep out passes yet, nor are deep shots a strength of our offense yet. Duke gambled on that analysis with success. Even with that, Duke still gave up 200+ passing yards to a Clemson offense that is still in its teething stage. First game miscues, which are to be expected … especially so with an inexperienced QB.
We’ll make the adjustments on offense so that we will win with our current players running Riley’s new schemes. We won’t run the table, but will enjoy another very good football season.

Take the same Clemson stats in the Duke game, offense and defense, and replicate them in the upcoming FSU game, minus the turnovers, the flubbed field goals and even the broken-tackle TD run by What’s-His -Name, the Duke QB. Does anybody really think we beat the FSU team we saw clobber LSU?

The expression ‘##########’ is a verbal reflex from those CFB fans who are reknown for saying ‘we’re cycling in’ and ‘wait ‘till next year.’
‘##########’ is also recited by that Barney Fife look-alike character on ESPN’s SEC Network whose romantic fantasies about Dabo went unrequited.

Yes, Duke has a veteran team. Yes it's been seen over and over that 20-22yr olds who are close in talent to 18-20yr olds but have worked together for that extra time will more often than not win because of the differences in physical and mental maturity. That's a risk you assume by telling all the incoming freshmen they will have every chance to earn playing time. Nobody wants to be butthurt by being told they aren't going to see the field for a year and during that time they have to work harder than they ever did before and then prove themselves in spring ball. But facts are facts, Osborne did it at Nebraska, Beamer at VT, Saban still does it, they get the players in, they accept that role or they move out and make room for another and every year those teams roll out some monsters that made you wonder what was in the water.
Now I love metrics when it comes to sports and athletes. But the main metric is the scoreboard and all the hyping of metric this and metric that will soon fall on deaf ears as an acceptance of not striving for greatness.
The science nerd in me is fascinated by what schools have developed to help athletes perform at their best. But I think, regardless of it only being 1 game, the entire department needs to listen up when a former player who was a mainstay in championship Tiger teams and had a shot in the NFL and is now paid to watch, interview and analyze other schools for ACCN states that Clemson players looked slower and less athletic than Duke. Where's the metrics now? Where's the 40 times, the big weigh in numbers? Didn't really help that much did it?
In another Tnet article someone commented that it's a sign of the times that today's youth have essentially gotten conditioned into the idea that if you dream it big it'll happen but don't grasp the rub that you still have to punch the clock and grind. And I can see that in my teenage son. But he surprised me by binge watching if all things, the Rocky movies. And it's the first 3 he liked the best. If he was able to grasp the idea that hard work is hard work and that's what you have to do to and flashy and trendy isn't always the best then maybe these players can see it as well. Otherwise I guess they can relax in their 100 yards of Wellness, sit in massage chairs or hottubs and have a Life Coach or Sports Shrink tell them it's gonna be OK until ########## makes a comeback and makes a bid to stick around for a while.

Happily taking anything “every week” after being thumped on national tv by an unranked team is hard to imagine. The gold standard is Coach Saran. What would he be saying? I seriously doubt Saban would use Swinney-speak this week. The power of positive thinking does have limits.

And you won't have a job very long because that offensive performance had 2 turnovers inside their 5 yard line coming up short on 3rd down and 2 missed field goals.
