I don't get the righteous indignation over self-checkout. So you scan and pay yourself. Most of the time it is faster than waiting in line. If it gets me out of the store quicker, who cares if I do it myself.
Not saying this is you because this is still funny...but people lose their everlovingshit over the idea of having to use self checkout.

i cant tell you how many times I'm sitting behind someone that doesn't know what they're doing and I have to instruct them or do it for them.
I sat behind an old dude that was trying to put pennies in the bill slot.
sigh.

I only use it if buying a couple of items. Which means I'd never use it

at the grocery store, or Wal-Mart. Do use it at places like Lowes. ALSO, you have to be careful because a LOT of people have been wrongly prosecuted using those things.
Sam's has the best system though. You scan each item with the app as you put it in the buggy. Then swipe to pay for everything and walk out the door. THAT IS AWESOME.

Agreed, Sam's scan and go has been a game changer, even at the gas pumps***

to use it at all. Of course, there are only maybe 2 people working at any given time, and they're either stocking shelves or smoking cigarettes in the parking lot. These people will wait 10-15 minutes just so they don't have to use it, and be pissed the entire time.
Then you have the ones who begrudgingly use it, but they might as well be trying to pilot an F-35. I'm not sure if they're struggling to make a point, or if they are genuinely too stupid to figure it out.
You would think these are mainly elderly people, but no....It's people as young as 40. My only problem with it is I can't scan my ID to buy beer, I've got to get an employee to OK me. But these ############# turn what could be a 2-3 minute stop into a 20 minute ordeal just by being worthless.

takes up like 10 pages in their operations manual and basically set the employee up to be fired on the spot if they sell to someone underage.
Meanwhile, the spill and clean up policies are basically, "oh yeah, try to keep water off the floor or put a cone on it and try to keep boxes out of the aisle. And if you don't you will get a stiff talking to, or maybe a promotion."

trying to catch them selling to underage kids....meanwhile people are just walking out of the store with whatever they want without paying. Maybe I should start grabbing my beer and walking out?

cut baggers and want the cashiers to do both. Every time I volunteer it's like I just threw a doubloon to a Calcutta beggar. I even had one cashier give me a senior's discount as a thank you. Meanwhile to me it's just the fastest way to get out of the store.
Plus making the product wheel spin is kinda fun.

If I can help speed up the transaction, I will. It's like my neighbor who was worried a tree was going to fall across her driveway and block her in, "Who is responsible for this?!?". I guess technically the developer/HOA is, but if you want to be able to leave your home that week you might want to figure out a solution yourself.

I bag my own at HT also. Most of the cashiers are slower than Chris Christie in a 40 yd dash.
My first job was as a bag boy at Winn -Dixie and my skills at bagging remain sharp, 50+ years later.
The wheel spin is fun, but I would like it better if I could stutter spin it like a DJ.
