The thing about the CFP poll and our current ranking….

Is that we are going to be pretty stationary the next couple of weeks…and then it will likely take a big jump conference championship weekend. Pretty sure that Bama & LSU will simply stay ahead of us the next 2 weeks, even with 2 losses. So will Tennessee with their 1 loss. If USC loses one of the next two, we’d move up and I suppose we’d just stay behind Bama, even though they play Austin Peay….I guess there’s a slight chance of us jumping them. I do think TCU would drop a good bit if they lose one of the next two. But it seems to me that we’d have to win the conference championship and jump like 4 or 5 spots in one day to get to number 4. That seems unlikely…but the biggest question is the amount of separation among teams in the top 10 at that point. I think right now the top 5 is there and there’s a gap between 5 & 6…mainly due to UT beating both LSU & Bama. I think teams 6 through 9 are almost interchangeable at the moment…which is why we can move up if we win out and have the conference championship with us. But a couple from the top 5 will have to fall to open the door.
And since another thread asked….yes, we should aim high and carry our slingshot with us if we have to go face Goliath as a 4 seed. The whole ‘getting embarrassed’ fear thing is silly. Michigan got owned last year in the CFP…and they are 10-0 this year. Bama eventually made it back to the CFP after the 44-16. Ohio St recovered from 31-0. Seems like they all dealt with embarrassment OK. But what if we actually played decently well and made it close or even won?

Clemson is Playoff certified.

We have the credentials needed to swing the vote our way. For that reason, and that we are almost sure to win the next three games we might squeeze in.
I'm saying this, if Dabo made Cade the starter and let DJ do cleanup duty during the coming games the Playoff would stand up and take notice. They would see a different team on the field than the one they saw with DJ starting.
I do not think Dabo will do that.

wrong or would you just like to Google it? Clemson has anywhere from a 56% to 80% chance of being in if we win out.
Now if you don't think we win out, that's another story but if we do we are most likely in. Just do some homework man.

There is absolutely a chance but the stars have to really align in our favor to pull it off. However, teams much further back than us made significant jumps in the final 3 games in 2017 & 2019 so anything is possible.

USC and TCU could both lose this weekend or next - may not

have to wait for Champ week for that. We may jump 1 or both of these 2 loss teams before the conf champ weekend also. The SEC schedules take a hit this weekend - our schedule has already absorbed the FU game but they don't have their powder puff factored in yet. Would not surprise me also if TAM rose from the ashes and ruined any ridiculous shred of hope LSU has remaining.
Plenty of football left, just need to win and we should end up either 4 and in or maybe 5 without anything to really gripe about.

Helping our SOS in their own way. I do think it would be justified for us to potentially jump Bama this week if we play well. Sec shouldn’t get a pass for playing Austin Peay this week. If someone else in front of Bama loses (USC, for instance)…I could see us jumping Bama in the shakeup.

Ithink your analysis is pretty accurate. And they only way that we jump 4 or 5 spots on championship weekend is if we wallop UNC badly - which I don't see happening.
I am wodering how we would look at this if we were not emotionally biased - say if we were #5 and had only lost to #1 and Tenn was # 9 and had lost badly to ND. I think we would have already written them off and would look at their fan's feeble hopes as pure fantasy.
