The GOR is basically a “noncompete”

These contracts when worded as broad as this one is are about worth as much as toilet paper. I have not read it, but I seriously doubt that it accounted for every single other P5 conference making major changes. When it hurts someone or something as much as this could hurt what Clemson has built, we will find a way out of it.

Hope you are right, and good attorneys can fix it. ACC needs to negotiate with E$PN for same money as $EC.

Wow, do you think attorneys for the conference of some of the best academic schools, graduate and undergraduate, in the nation did not know what they were doing?

The purpose was to implement a system whereby no current or future ACC member would ever be able to afford to leave the ACC. If that was the mission given to the attorneys, then they succeeded mightily.

That's just not a legally accurate analysis.
It's going to cost a lot of money to get out of the GOR agreement. I don't think there is a team of lawyers anywhere smart enough to overcome the stupidity that Swofford and the institutional presidents showed in making such a long term agreement in the middle of such a rapidly shifting landscape.

With lawyers and $$$ involved, there is always a way out. Especially if others bolt as well. ESPN will do whatever they can to get us to “their” SEC.

You apparently do not know many lawyers. Many an iron clad contract has been tossed in the trash after a team of lawyers got through driving a semi truck through the loopholes.

Signs away all rights to a record label and then still thinks they should be able to get them back.

Apples to oranges.
In the case of the GOR it is a contract between a group and there are many moving parts in the group. The more people involved in a contract, the easier it is to void the contract for an individual signee.
