So far, Basinger has done great in the circle. Clearly our ace this season.
Brooke has unfortunately been pretty inconsistent. Kinda all or nothing, seems like. I was really hoping for more improvement this year and more consistency, but unless I'm missing something - and I may be, I don't watch any and have only been to one game this year - I just haven't seen it yet this season.
Beyond that, what do we have? How do you rank our pitching? That's my biggest concern with this team. A lot of the other issues revolve around youth and inexperience, and that can develop over time. But pitching is pretty crucial.

Agree on the pitching, we'll be depending on Basinger heavily. I think the lineup is deeper this year, seems like a lot more consistent hitting so far.

All our pitchers seem to work behind the counter. Too many 3-2 counts. Brooke has regressed this year. I think she’s going through the motions a bit.

Pitching will be the limiting factor of this team. Basinger has been great but almost has to pitch 2 out of 3 games. McCubbin seems to struggle against good teams IMO. Cintron will likely get better. Her bat has been great. Not much depth behind those 3 and Basinger has been the only consistent one.

I’ll add, McCubbin seems to have the talent and has looked good at times.

My 2 cents, Reese is definitely #1. She moves the ball up-down & left-right,

hits her spots and nibbles at the plate. She'll often find herself in 2-2 & 3-2 counts and refuses to send a pitch down the pipe. She is by far our #1 pitcher. If she had another 3-4 mph she could be elite.
I think our #2 pitcher is not getting a lot of time on the mound, which I don't quite understand. Macey Cintron has upper-level (not elite) speed and has done pretty well when given the chance. I don't think she lacks confidence. I'm surprised she did not come into the game on Saturday when Brooke was struggling...Of course, the ump's strike zone was pathetic so she may have also struggled.
Brooke's bad habit of throwing too "pretty" of a pitch reared its head Saturday, the 2 early HR's were right down the middle. This has plagued her whole career. The last couple of times we saw her she stayed away from the middle of the plate and was hitting her spots. As the innings progressed on Saturday it was clear that the umpire's strike zone was forcing her more into the middle of the plate; UNC knew this and took full advantage.
Teamwise I'd say we have good pitching. Melnychuk has looked good at times, but Olivia has been MIA. It would be nice to have a lefty in the mix.
I like this team. We have some great-looking Sophomores and Freshmen who play hard every play and our seniors are leading by example. Rittman has done well in the transfer portal.
Go Tigers!

Early in the season I thought all of the pitchers were pitch to contact talent. Bassinger has shown some Cagle type left to right movement to get an occasional big strikeout. Cintron is young so it’s more about raw potential. McCubbin is exactly what I expected. She’s pitch to contact but has to hit her spots or the ball gets hammered around and out of the yard. The other two rarely pitch. Melanchuk doesn’t have high enough velo. What I dearly miss (and what other teams enjoy) is a pitcher with a legit rise pitch to send the hitter back to the dugout. It’s year 6 and only Cagle before the shoulder injury really had that kind of knock out punch. Rittman needs to go get a couple elite pitchers to complement Cintron. The freshmen are talented, but need that pitching upgrade to take the team back super regionals in the future.

All very good assessments. Duncan isn't ready. She was highly rated, just hasn't progressed. Ashamed she doesn't get more live action. Especially once we're up. McCubbin looked fantastic her freshman year. She, Duncan, and melanchuk are comparable to the unc pitchers we faced. UNC would be higher than 50th with just one good pitcher. They struggled Sunday with the zone too.
I was shocked that Cintron didn't get the nod Sunday. Should be able to get more innings with our upcoming schedule.

Clemson has 3 pitchers coming in next year. It is unfortunate that we could not hold on to Addisyn Linton who was a left-handed pitcher and outfielder. Elite player.
Lexie Hames is a right-handed pitcher from Pennsylvania. She's one of the best pitchers in the country. Will be an immediate contributor. Power pitcher. Can also play third or first.
Keira Crosby is another right-handed pitcher from Texas. Previously committed to Duke. Ranked 21 by Perfect Game.
Maddie Johnson is a right-handed pitcher from Aynor. Was South Carolina 3A softball player of the year.
We will have these 3 pitchers plus Cintron and Duncan next year. I believe it would be a good idea for Rittman to sign a grad transfer pitcher that can play immediately while these three get used to the college game.
