So heres the question for the Danny fans.

I like Danny as well but would the 80'squestion teams have a better chance at beating LSU or Bama than the current team? I would have to say no way the game has changed so much.

I would say yes considering Mettenberger's throwing.

A Danny Ford defense would make his life miserable.

What if Danny.......
Dec 27, 2012, 11:20 AM
|
|
What if Danny was playing without 3 projected starters in the secondary and basically no depth at all?
What if Danny had to deal with a defensive two-deep where 60% of the players are freshman and sophomores, including several of them seeing their first significant playing time?
What if Danny just brought in a coach whose system is completely different than the one we ran last year, and he had to deal with that learning curve on top of injuries and youth?
Now if we can roll Danny's late 80's defenses into this game, then I'm going to tell you Dabo has just as much of a shot at winning as Danny.

Well I don't think Danny would ever had been in a position that you describe. Danny would have had plenty of depth on the defensive side of the ball even if 3 starters in the secondary were down.

Big, tough, mean linemen win games. Danny had (developed) them, Dabo doesn't! I am betting that Dabo soon get them!

well, if you want to go that route..would the '80s bama and lsu teams be able to beat todays Clemson team with our offense? Who really cares? I absolutely think Danny's team could beat both alabama and lsu back in the 80's. We're about to find out in 4 days once and for all if Dabo can beat them.

You're assuming Danny's teams wouldn't have adapted to changes in how the game is played and that would be a big mistake. His defense, however, could play with the big boys of today. Danny was SEC all academic while at Alabama so he was nobody's dummy.

Hmmm.... ask Major Harris. Anyone who doubts those old defenses could'nt compete today never saw them play.

Not fair to mention that. I'll have you know that Harris scored a touchdown against Clemson on the first possession. After that, it was lights out!!! 27 - 7. Great game for MY Tigers.

If Danny were coaching today, his style would be more aligned with the physical SEC style. His defense would still be classic Ford, with our guys in their backfield disrupting plays along with a great linebacker corps. Our offense would be ground pounding through 4 quarters. The opposing teams knew what was coming at them, all they had to do was stop it.
