Since there is a rumor, Penn State to the ACC ....

To me it makes sense if we swing a deal where we swap ND to the Big10 for Penn State In Return ... Louisville to Big12 for WVU in Return ...
Its a "win win", for both us and the Schools we let go back to their "neighborhoods". ACC, B10, B12, all would benefit
It would reinforce natural geographic rivalries .... after all ND and L'Ville are kinda' "out there"
Penn State/Pitt/WVU/VaTech .... would really help our Yankee Northern tier and make the ACC truly interesting (VaTech is not Yankee, but not too far from WVu or Pitt)

Louisville and Notre Dame are easier road trips for me. Don't care much for the WV hillbillies. Wouldn't mind seeing Penn State come in and add one other.

Go to game in Morgantown and get back to us on that.
Love to have Penn St. over ND though. Louisville will be a great road trip.

The rumor is only from ACC folks. The rumor starts fr the fact that Maryland has recently filed a countersuit against the ACC alleging that they tried to recruit big ten schools.
Nowhere is there any information indicating any big 10 school wants to join the ACC, nor should there be.

here to stay and they are a fine addition. They are also contiguous with Notre Dame (Indiana) and Virginia. I would just like to see West Virginia added as the 16th team to connect that little piece that separates Virginia from Pennsylvania which we lost when Maryland left. Notre Dame may never join in football, but I think they may have to within the next six years.
Boston College Clemson Duke Florida State Georgia Tech Louisville Miami, Fl North Carolina NC State Notre Dame Pitt Syracuse Virginia Virginia Tech Wake Forest West Virginia
Of course the best scenario would have been for us to have never lost Maryland and gone after Penn State years ago when it was still possible. Also, I always thought Rutgers would have been a big get due to location, recruits and population. Dump Wake Forest and never have gotten BC. I would have preferred the conference look something like this.
Clemson Duke Florida State Georgia Tech Louisville Maryland Miami, Fl. North Carolina NC State Notre Dame Penn State Rutgers Syracuse Virginia Virginia Tech West Virginia

Penn St. would be cool, if it were true. It's not so it doesn't matter........I like Louisville being in the ACC and they love being in the ACC, so I welcome them. They were very complimentary of Clemson, Death Valley, and us as fans. I like them as an addition.

ND is a cash cow. The ACC needs to push for football entrance of ND. Add Penn State and the athletic and academic sides of the conference will both be happy.
Plus Penn State is a Land Grant public university and adds to the balance of public, Land Grant and private universities. Diversity.

Never is a long time, and they have joined the ACC in everything but football.
They fail to get into the playoff a few times because of not playing in a championship game and we'll see.

What's wrong with being independent?...

There is no rule you have to be in a conference. I like the fact that ND, hasn't caved into pressure to join a conference. Their fans want to hold on to their independent tradition, and I see nothing arrogant about that.

Penn State has talked about it before. Geographically, and probably academically, they actually fit better in the ACC than they do the B1G. They would also give the ACC a huge presence in Pennsylvania - we already have Pitt - and would nicely round out the ACC as a true "East Coast League". Would do a really good job of linking the New York and Boston programs we have to the southern schools.
I'd love, love, love to have Penn State. If we can add Notre Dame, that would give you a true ACC North/ACC South.
North: 1) Penn State 2) Notre Dame 3) Pitt 4) Boston College 5) Syracuse 6) Louisville 7) Virginia 8) Virginia Tech
South: 1) Miami 2) Florida State 3) Georgia Tech 4) Clemson 5) NC State 6) North Carolina 7) Wake Forest 8) Duke
I could REALLY get behind that. Massively reduces travel costs for everybody, gives you regional rivals and a guaranteed 7 conference games a year that are either at home or within driving distance, and it gives you legit North/South divisions and enough name power that whoever wins the ACC title game is pretty much guaranteed a shot at the playoffs. And it puts the ACC squarely in all the big markets on the Eastern Seaboard, which means money.
Truthfully, I'd love to tweak it still further by giving Wake Forest the boot and bringing in somebody like UCF or USF, but Tobacco Road wouldn't have it and neither would FSU, which has absolutely no desire to ever upjump a potential sleeping monster like USF or UCF - which have, what, 60,000+ students apiece now and are growing like weeds with no end in sight? - and then have to share the in-state talent with them. But UCF/USF are going to be huge at some point, and be able to pack 60,000 or even 80,000 seat stadiums, no reason not to recognize they're monster programs in the making needing only the opportunity and grab them based on future potential. And then all of a sudden you're talking "SEC" type gameday atmospheres, almost every week.

Just wondering how athletically and academically they fit better in the ACC?
Didn't the ACC just add Louisville? Any academic integrity they had gets thrown out when you make that move.

Penn State has a lot of mediocre sports. Louisville has one of the richest athletic departments in the country and is solid in football, men's and women's hoops, and baseball. Louisville is not in the Big 12 footprint at all. Need to look at your map. Louisville is north and slightly west of Knoxville. West Virginia??? Nope. Nope. Nope. That ain't happening. The only thing that needs to happen is getting ND into the ACC on a full-time basis in football. And that ain't happening.

Does anyone think that Navy may be in the cards?
Jan 24, 2015, 11:29 PM
|
|
Think about it.
ND has a long tradition with Navy, and I've ready due to ND helping out Navy during the war years a long time ago, they will basically always be on ND's schedule in football.
So if Navy was "recruited" to the ACC, the six games ND play against the ACC becomes 7... heck, we only play 8 now...
Granted if Navy and ND both came in, we likely go to 9 games, but still that "eliminate" an issue for ND. Navy goes on their schedule as a conference game now.
Plus, adding two more teams, puts the ACC with 16 teams. Great number to go with 4 "pods" with 4 teams each.
You play the three teams in your POD, and one from each of the other PODS as a perm cross over (giving you six games), and rotate three teams one in each POD.
Seems like perfect setup... put ND in same POD with Navy, BC and maybe a VT? Gives them BC every year, Navy every year...
They could even get a cross over with the 'Cuse every year since they have a long history with them. You could come up with some good POD arrangements, etc.
What do you guys think?
