Thoughts? I like it a lot. The styling harkens back to the Range Rovers.

Is Rivian still partnered up with Ford?

Looks like an insane attempt at a Bronco and an oversized vw cabriolet.
The nostalgia run is really hitting a peak lately. Redo movies, bring back old styles from previous vehicles (I will concede Nissan does nice things with their Z models at times). Trying to remake LG styles isn't working for me
Nice CG work though

still based here in SE MI. They are all over the place around here and the car and suv version look great. I think the trucks look dumb.

Rivian, the electric vehicle upstart that announced more than two years ago plans to build a $5 billion vehicle and battery plant with 7,500 promised jobs east of Atlanta, is halting the mammoth project.
The California company, which promised in late 2021 to build what was then considered Georgia’s largest-ever economic development project, said Thursday at an event introducing new models that it will now start production of its anticipated R2 crossover at its sole factory in Illinois instead of in the Peach State.

They still plan on making the GA plant happen, but need the cash flow from sales of the higher volume models to keep financing it. Trying to not burn through their cash reserves.
No clue if it actually will ever happen but they aren’t abandoning the project at the moment.

going iirc. Almost did not make it. Lots of capital required to start a car company and I bet they are losing money on each sale right now.

I remember the story about the Rivian who had a fender bender and it costs something like $25k to fix. Edge case, for sure, but it seems like these electric cars have much more sensitive builds where small repairs start adding up -- at what point do insurance rates start reflecting that?

Biggest problem is the use of these giant stamped body panels. Genius for production ease, but the lack of modularity makes repair more difficult.
I think as they propagate parts will be more available and body shops will get more adept at repairing them. The same thing was true when Audi started using aluminum construction. Repair cost and availability was insane until Ford adopted the same thing with the F150. Volume drove down costs.

New GT RS’s that were $125-150k 2 years ago are $50-60k now. Looks like the Taycan (almost same car) was the smarter money, as their residuals are holding much much higher.

Sub-$20k long-range model 3’s with 40-50k miles are now very available if you shop well. They’re becoming too cheap to say no to if you need a daily driver and fit the use case for one. Especially for a younger person under the income cap who could take a $4500 tax credit on that purchase.

Starting next spring I’m going to be putting a crap ton of miles between here and the Carolinas to watch my daughter play.
Want something super comfortable, low maintenance and highly efficient.
Considered those but I think they’ll fail the comfort test for road trips. I just think they will still be loud and boomy, even though I think the prime has double paned glsss.
My wild card is a low mile 2017 Model S (last year that still has unlimited lifetime free supercharging).

Yes indeed. And you can find 2018s with lower miles for same.

Consensus seems to be that it’s about a 300k mile battery pack before losing enough capacity to not be practically usable.

Hopefully this is a good option for folks that an electric car makes sense for. Honestly an F150 Lightning would have made some sense for me if the price was right. A few days a week the 10 miles round trip to the gym is the only driving I do.

I could haul wood in the bed. I currently don't tow anything but think about a trailer more and more every day. I think the longest trip I've used the truck for is hauling beer and stuff to Bristol, TN.

I meant to choose electric over gas for 100 miles a week of driving
Mar 8, 2024, 9:39 AM

You have to drive it to get the value out of not paying for fuel. If you already are paying a minimal for fuel due to usage....kinda pointless
Butt actually....I could be wrong. I assumed the premium cost of electric over gas would be measureable.
It appears, if you want 4WD with a crew cab, the prices are almost the same. $45K vs $46K.

We are going to do a complete review of my new F150 Lightning.
