Random but anyone questioning a big issue with this team

Go watch highlights of the OSU game we came back to win… a lot of short passes and runs the ETN just ran away from everyone and made HUGE plays. A couple of those screens we ##### about today are tds with a back like that… and I love our rbs they are tough runners but we don’t have any where near the explosiveness for big plays at that position. Just no hr threat even in the open field which is a really big deal. Just a thought I saw when they highlights popped up I’d like to see us add a little more speed at the rb position at some point. Also I say we win big tonight 34-10, Go Tigers!

David Hood discussed that in this week's Tigernet Podcast episode. Still missing a RB who can break away.

Missed that but completely agree… when you have a guy that can break it with one block like Travis used to do it opens up so much offensively… right now we don’t have backs that are a real hr threat or that can outrun anyone in a secondary. I know backs like Trevor don’t come around too often but just having a back to compliment ship and mafah that has break away speed would be a game changer for this offense.

RBs are tough and try hard but are not the game breakers we sorely need. Gallman wasn’t a gamebreaker either but he had WRs to take the heat off of him and give him more room to operate and more 1v1 opportunities to run over a guy where these guys have multiple guys jammed up and coming after them at the same time

Gallman was a stronger back than what we have now. Really surprised that Mafah isn't just smashing folks with his size.

I think he would. He smashes Shipley in every grade, including blocking... but why we don't give him and Jay more snaps is beyond me. A lot like Dabo did with DJ, treats ship tge same.

I could be way off on this bc I have the memory of a 108 year old but I seem to remember even Gallman having a few long td runs , if he got into the secondary he seemed to have more speed than ship or mafah, again I could be wrong just seems like he was very under rated and a much better back than most realized.

Shipley is supposed to have the speed but it doesn't come through in pads. I'd like to see more speed at WR. Whether WR or RB we just don't seem to have anybody to stretch the defense.

Shipley acts like it but he isn't actually that type of player

I love his fire, but he has gone down on hand tackles too often. For the backs we have, we need a killer OL. Just want to see our OL keep improving and the back(s) make their blocks as well.

He’s def not … he can bust some runs but I wish he had the vision of mafah and he’d be a much better back! He doesn’t let things develop and he get tackled way too easily in open field. Again not downing our backs bc I think they are great for what they are we just need some speed to compliment them and that two back set would be on a completely diff level imo

Its not the RBs, its the lack of push or open holes up front

Our OL can pass block fine, but seem to get pushed around on running plays. It’s glaringly obvious.

I agree but I do think it’s lack of speed also… most teams with a bakc with decent speed and that run by mafah on the play right before the scoop and score against fsu would have been an easy td … we don’t have open field speed at rb at all and it hurts bc defenses know that.

RB recruiting had been rough. CJ may also be losing his only RB commit for this cycle to Auburn

That has been talked about for a year with both our running backs and receivers having a lack of speed. Somebody has to be able to take it to the house make the defense respect that and change what they are doing.

Shipley runs hard and gets low to pick up the tough yards. If you don't have great speed you need to be a great cutter which he isn't. He also gets ankle tackled a lot in the open field. Hopefully he will have a big game tonight.

Agree with that 100%, he gets tackled way too easily barely getting hit.

Trevor was a generational QB - but Travis was a generational RB.
If I am not mistaken, he set the all-time ACC record of RBs. That is quite a list to be at the head of.
