Overreactions from Game 1

Very long time TNet reader, first time poster.

Here are my OVERREACTIONS from Game 1

Canerella - I fully expect him to get back, but maybe
The pressure of his draft year?

McCladdie - seems like needs more development. Definitely not a 3 hole hitter

Jarrell - needs to be in the lineup, but nowhere near cleanup

Bissetta - didn’t like the plate approach today, not a
Good sign

Cuifo - I predict Paino ends up at short and Cuifo sees the bench sooner rather than later

Here are some reactions that I don’t think are overreactions

Knaack - will bounce back. That was a good hitting OSU team. He started leaving some over the plate second time through the order.

Gaffney - Dude looks like a major league hitter in terms of his plate disciple. 2 walks, rbi double, hard hit
Ball to center, and struck out on what in my opinion was a great pitch. Excited to have him.

Listi and Paino - great portal pickups. Would not
Be surprised to see those guys hitting 1 and 2 before it’s over with

Purify - i think he starts the season slow, but ends up being an offensive weapon by the end of the year.

Excited to see what Crighton, and Priest can do.

Slightly nervous on Darden and Leugernic. Both talented, but also struggled with command
At times. At their best, we have a hell of a weekend rotation, at their worst, we need to score a lot
Of runs.

Excited for our tigers and excited for baseball.

What are y’all’s thoughts?

I'm not going to react just yet as it is way too early to make any judgement other than to point out that our line-up is a long way from being settled ..... according to Bakich. One positive is that if you look at the details of the game, every player contributed something .... either a hit, a score, or some other stat that all helped win the game.

Exactly, after the first 10 to 12 games into the season, the lineup won't look nothing like it does right now bc one thing that Bakich don't have a problem doing that not every coach will do, he will put his very best players on the field regardless of how long they've been with the team. If a freshman looks to be better than a senior, the freshman will start before the senior starts...

You don’t think it had anything to do with Bakick & Leggett both being out?

Again, overreactions. I think we beat a very good team that will probably be in line to host this postseason. If we played a Sacred Heart type team, I think we run rule them with the same performance as today. I'm excited to see how we develop.

Hell, I could eat my words, McCladdie and Jarrell might each go 3 for 4 tomorrow with a couple jacks. I'm just excited were back out on the diamond.

You should have waited on your first post. We won the game and that is all matters would have been an appropriate first post.

Cam will be fine
Mcladdie isn’t a 3 hole hitter but he had a nice opposite field single in the inning we scored 2 runs to make it 4-3
Jarrell will end up batting 8th or 9th it’s ok
Bissetta didn’t have the best day but hit a couple balls hard
Ciufo is not seeing the bench. He’s out SS for the year
List will eventually bat leadoff. Maybe as soon as tomorrow

Yeah that’s a good lineup. Our best lineup will be when Jarrell has off days and Gaffney catches opening up a spot for Crighton in RF, Priest at 1B and Bissettta DH

Yes this exercise is pointless. But it’s a “get me over” until we see more action tomorrow. I think we have a great team. Wanted to get the conversation stirring until we play again tomorrow.

I agree with you on McCladdie....not sure how he was inserted in the 3 hole...I guess he hit well in fall camp? It's the first game and they will all come around. I am definitely disappointed in Cannerella though....just not seeing the zone well yet.

Ciufo is an elite defensive shortstop. That's why he's in the lineup. Anything he can give you at the plate is bonus.

Great conversation all around guys. This Clemson baseball team is very talented. There are several teams on the schedule that are as talented as Clemson and a few that are probably more talented. National championship team if Clemson can stay relatively healthy through the season. Go Tigers!!

1st game against a really good pitcher. Davis will be up there with some of the best we see all year. This weekend we are playing 3 good teams. Pitching will be tough. It will smooth out once you get into weekends playing series.

Eager to see Priest in the lineup, as there seems to be a power void w/ both Grice and Obertop gone.

Also, I wonder how very highly regarded freshmen like Wentworth and Bell will factor into the equation.

Didn’t see the game yesterday. How did Ciufo look at short coming back from the ACL recovery? Is he moving well laterally?

Welcome coot. Pretty good first poast.

The over reactions are just that. Coach EB knows his stuff. I’d like to see Purify in the top 6 batters. Bissetta looked good to me. He just missed a bomb homerun and showed true power.

Knaak will be just fine. Second time through the lineup can be tough against elite hitters. Okie St is ranked for a reason.

The transfers and freshman will make an impact this season. Mahlsted took a huge step forward since transferring from Wofford a few years ago.

I was a TNet lurker like you until about 3 years ago. I joined in 2011 and rarely posted anything. The last two years I’ve gotten a lot more active as I see many on here as Clemson family.
