Largemouth Fish

Caught a large mouth fish today. I got in 4 hours this morning. I found a spot in the shade and caught 3 bass down about 10 foot.
Then in the same area caught this alligator with a large mouth. My arm was not long enough to get a photo of the entire fish. I get one from time to time, some have been over 20lbs, this is a smaller one. They are hard to get off the line and release, I always keep gloves in the boat just for them. Those teeth can rip you up.
I once got one that latched on to a bass I was reeling in and would not let go until I pulled him into the boat. They are a lot of fun.

I caught a bream that had a jack ahold of it. That was a fun fight on a bream-buster.

Cleaning one to eat is a difficult task. I would not recommend going to the trouble. Their taste is just so-so in my opinion.

I agree on the taste, but they are easy to clean. Open them up with EMT scissors and cut meat away from inside of skin. Takes about twice as long as a catfish of equal weight, but not bad.

Every time I post a critter, you want to eat it. I release all fish I catch.
When a kid, I stopped bringing fish home because I had to clean them. Once Pop told me to bring them home and he would clean them. If my Bride would clean and cook them - great, but I married a yank that will not.

If you married to a Yank, no wonder you stay on the lake so much.

they make really cool skeletons. There's an island in Lake Marion thats full of them. I think the ospreys snaatch them up and drop'em on the beach to die and eat later.

The SC record is 25 pounds 6 oz. I have caught them that big, maybe not? They are round so weigh more than they they look like they would. At times I have seen schools run into my cove. They are difficult to catch. My brother told me I should take up bow fishing for them.

Spud is after different fish.
Having to take the small fish off your hook slows me down so I use large lures.

among the mangroves here in Florida. Catching a 400 lb Bull shark on top water using these like a jerk bait is absolutely exhilarating and something that should be experienced by every salt water angler.

steel toed boot, knock them unconscious on the shore to get your bait back, and after about five minutes of not moving in the shallow water, they STILL come back to life and swim away. At least they do in the Santee Tail Race Canal, circa 1980 or so.
