I’ve seen people say the ACC is dead, but

it’s locked in until 2036. It’s not going away. It’s just going to join the Group of 5 conferences due to the ever increasing revenue gap compared to the B1G and SEC. Think Conference USA or the Mountain West. Not dead, just weak and not seriously vying for National Championships.
Maybe be like the WAC and eliminate football entirely and focus on the only thing the ACC cares about: basketball.

Folks can bury their head in the sand and stock their fingers in their ears all they want, it won’t change this fact. Reality is reality. So, now knowing reality, what are we gonna do about it. See, that is called adulting. Adults see reality and make decisions and take actions based on R E A L I T Y.

Clemson is not locked in till 2036. The ACC may still exist until then, but Clemson will never be in it until 2036.
There is nothing that has changed in the past 48 hours that has altered Clemson’s plans to leave the conference.Amazing people are freaking out right now.

I was just talking about the ACC, not Clemson.

I am not so sure about that. The SEC may have backed off because of a potential interference lawsuit.

Problem is, how many G5 teams have been in playoffs? None! Clemson and obviously FSU won't stay as a G5 conference and very likely gone within 2 yrs.
I agree that when we depart, others will as well like VT and Miami. No way ACC stays P5. It will wither away into an average conference as even the basketball isn't even elite any longer. Duke and UNC can't carry the basketball torch and even Pitt/Louis are shells of former selves.

I wish I was as hopeful as you, but unfortunately I think VT is stuck in ACC or whatever it morphs into one day. Unfortunately, Fuentes did a 5 star job of screwing up VT's football brand. I'm hoping it improves, but for the short term there will be some growing pains.

Which sucks for Clemson, where basketball doesn't matter.***

Garbage. We are not weak and will be laughing all the way to the Playoffs this year. The ACC is a Power conference and will continue to be.

Not quite. Big difference between ACC money and the 4 mil/yr each Mountain West school gets.

The ACC will be dead yes. But not Clemson or FSU. Clemson and FSU realize that football pays the bills and won't let it fade away into obscurity in the next 14 years. I can't speak for the rest of the ACC members though, nor do I care to.
