I can't find actual ages of the players at the time of the roster but going by 18,19,20,21 for F,SO,JR,SR as a base line the average age of the roster in 2018 was 19.333.....2023 it's 19.05. This may not seem like a big difference but considering the ages I used from among 120 total players it would take a good many 18 and 19 year olds to shift it 1/3 of a year.
With every player since 2020 having an extra covid year and many of them having taken advantage of it, this is concerning to me. The roster should have gotten older since 2020, no?

I find that hard to believe. Is it because of the Covid years? 50-60 freshman, even when you include redshirt freshman can’t be right. We recruit max 20-25 a year. Could it be because of all the walk in’s we allow?

142 plyers - thought Dabo said we had about 130 prior to start of season.
This doesn't even include the PK we added Sunday!

Why not do 1st thur 6th players per season. If your labeling is correct (Fr/rS Fresh and SR/RS SR) you’re missing true sophomores, true and rs juniors, and possibly super seniors/graduates (unless their lumped in with RS SRs. That doesn’t make sense you already have a full scholarship roster by the numbers.

It isn’t just scholarship roster. It’s entire roster. The source doesn’t differentiate.

The reason may be that in 2018, the portal was used, but not like since 2021.
There are always many teams that are having players constantly transfer out. And Clemson has had their fair share the last few years.
Those scholarship spots that have needed to be filled have only been with high school recruits. Not older transfer players. Because…Dabo doesn’t use the portal.
Those transfers out of Clemson kept adding up and now we are seeing the new wave of freshman recruits that are filling in those spots.
I may be completely wrong.

I know...that's my point. We have 50 guys who are not on scholarship and those tend to be younger walk-ons. The number of non-scholly players drops as they get older.
The portal has nothing to do with those players. If we want to try to analyze how the portal is affecting team age, limit it to the 85 on scholly.
