Just reminds me more of that. I’m sure Dabo has been a great mentor over the years and has probably had to fight the AD from firing him not just a few times. I’m so glad we have Dabo at the helm. And now that the ACC is down, it’s nice to see Basketball have some success.

Did we have a MBB team before 2008?

Did we even have an athletic department before 2008?

Brownell is a great coach and I'm thankful he's at Clemson.

If you have evidence that Dabo has advocated for Brownell with the AD please share it; likewise with mentorship. If you've paid any attention you know that Dabo is big on "keeping the main thing the main thing" and is keen on doing his job and not someone else's. I don't believe for a second that's he's insinuated himself on the AD and tried to tell him how to do his job.

2025 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah I don't think so either..

Do you really think that in an athletic department where you have a very successful coach who has won championships doesn’t go to bat for his fellow coaches and you honestly don’t think there is some at least informal mentorship going on?

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

First off Dabo and Brownell are colleagues not mentor mentee

Brad's been a head coach several years longer than Dabo. I'm sure they counsel each other from time to time.

A head coach giving unsolicited advice to his boss about personnel moves in other sports is out of line.

Never said that he gave unsolicited advice. Dabo is the big dog in our athletic department. If you can’t see that then I can’t help you. Again if you don’t think there is unofficial mentoring going on then you would be wrong. Not sure why you are so emotional about this. I’m happy that Brad is succeeding finally.

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No one is emotional I just reject your entire premise

You're implying that Brownell owes some of his current success to Dabo because he has:

A. Mentored him and helped him learn to win
B. Kept him from being fired by advocating for him to the AD.

Your argument is dismissive to both Brownell and Neff, and makes it sound like you believe "the big dog" is running the whole athletics department. He's not.

Our basketball teams owes some of its success to the football team because success in football raises the profile of an entire athletics department and increases its resources. Just like Bama, Auburn, UT, and UT Jr owe some of their success to football. It ain't because Nick Saban, before he retired, taught Nate Oates how to win or convinced Greg Byrne not to fire him when his players started participating in murders.

But Dabo's not approaching Neff and, "fight the AD from firing him not just a few times" like the OP says.

there's nothing wrong with Dabo taking Brad under his wing. Nothing at all.

This whole argument is pointless anyway by all reports Brownell has the support of the only people really matter; the high dollar boosters. His neck was never on the chopping block for Dabo to save.

Steve Smith, defendant Christian Dawkins, and an undercover FBI agent could not have made Dabo happy. It doesn't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together and surmise who shaped the young assistant's
perspective on the matter-

Why wouldn't they love each other and have each other's back? Good to see Brad doing well. Not sure why people can't be happy for both.

I hope Dabo has shared wisdom with Brad. I also hope Brad has supported Dabo in terms of how to successfully use the portal. Looking forward to the win win and both programs being the best versions of themselves!
