Dude you are sad! He actually is employed and pays taxes and does indeed have a market value which was substantially high after his second national championship.

Players also pay taxes and have a market value, but for now they're more like independent contractors. They'll be employees soon, though.

Honestly be shocked if they were truly paying taxes on money they are receiving through these collectives. I would believe that most are handshake deals like it’s always been.
I’m not sure if anyone even knows what is being paid to who much less our government.
Guy that lived around Weddington said Shipley was getting over 300,000 while he was at Clemson. Did anyone know that? I try to stay in the loop but had never heard this.

Got anything to back it up?
Given that the NIL collectives are chartered corporations, it's more likely that they withold 30% and issue a 1099 form for it.

What is the market value on an 18 year old unproven 5 star RB right out of high school?
Wonder what DJ’s market value was coming out of high school. Dang somebody has paid megabucks for this kid at 2 maybe 3 schools no less and he will be working a regular job when he graduates.

So basically it’s how much money can be collected to buy said player and it needs to be at least 10,000 more than your rival. Thy are throwing money at the wall in hopes it works out because them or no one else knows what his market value will be. Could be a DJ. They will throw stupid money to buy a 5 star.
I will go with “for market value” after I see him play.

I don’t mean to sound condescending. I do understand where you are coming from with the fair market value. I’m just stating no one actually knows what that is and folks are throwing money at stars.
Would not surprise me if the rating sites are not trying to get a cut by offering up a star increase to the player to make him/her more valuable, and get a 20% kickback after the said player gets his funding.

So are you saying Dabo was offered a full ride at Clemson for 3-4 years? Dabo got hired to run a football program and offers schollies to those he deems are deserving. He could be canned tomorrow. It’s currently his profession. Most of the guys playing college ball will be working real jobs after they graduate.
If you are worried about health risks then maybe you should have played badminton. If we have a losing season do any of the players need to worry about getting let go. You are talking apples and oranges but I believe you already know that.

I'd have to know how Dabo was going to use the loot. That would be the deciding factor for many.
Since he is not going to use it for portal, and doesn't want to pay HS recruits, that only leaves paying current players. Not sure that is going to be a winning hand. Dont have to use portal, but you are definitely going to have to pay top HS recruits.

Since when did head coaches control what happens with the schools revenue? Dabo can campaign for people to donate to NIL and try to convince the school to explore revenue avenues, but it's not a football coaches decision on what happens with University money.

Yes! Yes! a thousand times Yes! Money-Money-Money! we need it, got to have it! How can we make more? Can we add a service charge to the ticket? How about a mowing fee for the Hill? How can Clemson be expected to survive while we're going broke? You know, if we just a leave a strip of grass for the team to run down, I'll be we can squeeze in so many more seats!!! What else can we do?????
I know......I know....put up a toll booth at the Old Stone Church and charge people!!!! Think about all the money-money-money!!!!
Y'all got to get on the train here! We got to stop taking advantage of the players and start taking advantage of the fans! That's the way to the Promised Land of a National Championship!
Get out of that box you thinking in!!

I do not believe all of the money these players receive now is on the books. We don’t hear about what these guys are making. I could report a small NIL deal and pay taxes on that and the Buckeye Collective or whatever they want to come up with could be giving me another 500,000 under the table. Some of these guys are making and talking stupid money and I’m not wrapping my mind around it be from their name, image and likeness. To each their own just my opinion.

Let’s go ahead and open up the whole can and see who is getting paid what at every school. NIL’s, collectives what ever is hitting a players pocketbook. After they become employees of the school unionizing will soon follow and after that we may miss football occasionally if the players decide the universities are not meeting their demands. It’s coming folks. Hope a few knowledgeable people are working behind the scenes to streamline this current chaos that is now college football. If not you will see the same 8 schools vying for a championship every season.

I’m watching more than ever. At least there is structure. What OSU is doing, of all the dang schools, saying they need 20 million dollars to do business.
What are the other less fortunate schools in that conference going to do to keep up? They are going to get beat down on players and facilities.
The group of 5 will be schools not conferences.

The other, less fortunate schools will cash their media revenue checks and lose to Ohio State most of the time, same as they were doing before NIL. Ohio State has always had more resources than those schools.

Yes. I was more into maybe finding a way to make more teams competitive instead of it actually trending in the other direction. I mean how good is the final product if you basically know before the season starts who will be there in the end.

We gave up our tickets the COVID year after it just became to hard to go because of our health, but if we were going, the fee would be paid without question. You can expect a fee of 3-4% to use your debit card and that is just standard business now. Fees on tickets are standard if you purchase online and that is just the world that we live in. The pathetic people that are jealous of the salary Dabo makes just need to give up big time college sports and maybe find a little D111 school to follow.

I wouldn't mind that much honestly. 10% is not a huge increase on a ticket price. I mean if I'm buying a ticket for 100 bucks and it increases to 110 to help the NIL fund, I wouldn't be mad about it.
Though I think a better idea would be to add a 2-4% fee on beer purchases once it starts. It would be a smaller even less noticeable amount and would raise plenty of money.

I’m out guys, cigar is done, but I do enjoy the banter as always. Like anything we all will never agree on everything which is probably a good thing!

Just raise prices for the talent fee and don't call the increase anything.
