How good are the Gamecocks this year?

Who would you compare them to on our schedule?
I see they are only 3 point dogs to A&M who only lost to Bama by 4 in Tuscaloosa.
Are they as good as State and FSU?
Or more like BC and Tech?

They would lose to a healthy State and WF team

imo.
Probably like 'Cuse. I think they are better than GT or UVa at least those teams I watched last night.

Not good at all. Very bad, in fact.

I'd put them on Boston College/Tech level.
Their stock is overinflated because of that Kentucky win. Kentucky was coming off a heartbreaker, they didn't have their star QB, and apparently there were some pretty #### calls.
South Carolina still can't protect the QB against any defensive line worth a #### (and A&M's is good). They can't defend against the run. Their RB corps is meh. Take A&M to cover big time.
Now that DJ is playing up to standard, and assuming we don't have any stupid injuries coming into that game, it'll be even uglier than last year. Our defensive line will shred them.
They'll get murdered by Tennessee. I still think Florida, despite problems, will beat them. Missouri is a toss up. They'll probably beat Vandy. They should finish 5-7.

A&M isn't very good. 4 TO's kept them in that game.

USC would lose to a healthy WF or NC State. I would probably compare them to Syracuse or Louisville.
To be honest though, I think on any given year the 15-55 ranked teams in the country would be coin-flips if they played.

Don’t matter how good they are…

Clemson is better.
To answer your question honestly would require too much research. I do think that given enough time, Shane Beamer is the answer they need. I think he’s a decent coach. But, will they be patient enough to suffer through the growing pains… I doubt it.

I don't think he will be able to do what SOS did

and that is what will get him fired. At best, he can make them a 2nd or 3rd place team in their division, it will be interesting to see how the SEC realigns when they add UT and OU, but you have to assume Auburn is the most likely candidate.
I doubt they give him enough time to be their Tommy Bowden even.

That's where I upset some Coot friends the other day when I started a sentence with, "WHEN you fire Shane Beamer..."
He can't get them on the level they want in four years. UGA ain't going away. Tennessee appears to be back. Kentucky, despite their fluke win, will remain a better program. Surely Florida will find a way. And A&M is going to still be good.
That's five teams every year that are likely more talented than them. Throw in Clemson and the occasional Bama, LSU, Ole Miss...
Unless Beamer can suddenly hit Spurrier levels of recruiting (which were fueled by rampant cheating that would be a moot point today), they ain't getting where they want to go soon.

And add another SEC East team to the list.

I do think the addition of UT and OU did more to the potential future success of SCar in the SEC than most realize.

Gotta think that...

A traditional West team gets moved to the East for geography sake. That has the potential to be Auburn or Arkansas, I think.
