How exactly is 12 team playoff better?

Still controversy with certain teams not making playoffs. In fact, this year more teams will be complaining.

Still better than 4. 8-12 are not going to win it anyway.

Auto bids for top 5 ranked conf champions is the biggest improvement, but 12 instead of 8 was just a money grab. I do like the extra home game element

Think: NFL. Plenty of teams in geographic sectors can get fired up about their home team, lots of money at stake, lots of entertainment, and more to do in December. Did you want to go back to a bunch of Fruit Loop bowls with half the players opting out? Did you want Clemson to have a chance to get in again? Not sure what you're missing.

Hosting playoff games on campus makes it better

I think we should go back to 11 game schedules. Get rid of conference title games. Whoever is on top of the standings at the end of the year is the conference champ and add another round to the playoffs. Give all conference champs a bye. That forces Notre Dame to either join or forfeit a chance at a bye.

Gonna be honest, this has been the best season in a LONG time.

Totally agree. As a fan, this has been the most competitive season that I can remember. That's more about the NIL.piece but seeing all of these teams still fighting for a spot has created high pressure games every week. Think about the game for the Tigers this coming Saturday. Both teams with an outside shot. It's a huge game!

We maybe had one season there were even 4 teams worth making the playoffs.
It's just going to lead to a bunch of whining for weeks where the bottom teams will still get embarrassed.

Easy. Far more teams, less chance

that a marginal team gets lucky for a couple of games and wins it.
There is unlikely to be as much controversy unless, say Indiana, and a Army or Navy gets left out with a single decisive loss. That's looking unlikely with three SEC teams getting a 3rd loss yesterday.
We'll see how it shakes out when the regular season ends.
We still need Miami to lose to get in.

Millions more people representing 5 or 10 fanbases have hope still so they will watch. Not sure it’s better for the sport but it’s achieving exactly what was intended. $$$$$$$ Beat the dirt peckers!!!!!

It's better because you get a larger sample size.
This argument that the "eill always be someone complaining" is simply a fallacy.

When everything is about money to attract the best rosters, a 4-team playoff virtually assures that only the top spenders would take most of the slots every year. It essentially becomes an SEC-B1G post-season tournament.

It's way better. Some teams/fans will always complain, but if a team doesn't make that cut, tough. That's the way it goes. There are 12 teams which is still much better and much more exciting. More important football come bowl season with 12 teams.

To have a true national champion, I feel you have to include all conference champions. Otherwise, it’s simply showing favoritism. The expanded playoff allows for all conference championships to get a slot, and then any other non-champion team deemed equivalent. It also allows for really good group of five teams and independents to get a chance. I feel it’s a vast improvement over simply picking what a committee “feels like” are the four best teams, or the four teams that will make the most money. Every other sport in the world has a playoff system involving more than 4 teams. Why it has taken college football this long to catch up is beyond me.

We aren’t sniffing a four team playoff these days, but the hope is that we can maybe make a 12 team playoff.
Here’s to 2025.

a true consensus national champion. That’s it. This accomplishes that. Honestly a 6 or 8 team playoff would have been fine. No team has any right to complain about being left out of this playoff. If you are arguing that you should have been 12th instead of 13th or 14th, guess what, you weren’t winning the national championship anyways, so who cares what you think.
