If you are, then NO! The early polls at this stage are not based specifically on this year's results.
The poll results at this time of year include the results from as many past seasons as the pollsters care to recall.
Pollsters are human and they have memories. The early polls are always loaded with preconceived notions and bias from past years.
Clemson will have to overcome those notions and that bias by winning a few ACC games. Winning a lot of relatively meaningless November/December games is not going to do it because ... well, see the OP.

Matter very little. Almost two-thirds of the teams in the Dance will be unranked. Having a dance partner is the goal...the only goal.
