Would anyone be surprised if Dabo pulled a Tony Bennett?
I believe Bennett said something substantially similar to, "If you're going to do it, you've got to be all in. If you only do it half-way, it's not fair to the university or the teams. That's why I am stepping down as the head coach at UVa".
Operating under the current environment of NIL and the transfer portal, which remains largely unregulated with no sign of changes anywhere in sight, while both were well-equipped to do the job the old way, the current circumstances is not what these guys signed-up for when they got into coaching.
College athletics is not in a healthy place right now which is really sad and unfortunate, and changes absolutely need to be structured. Personally, while I am not at all opposed to paying players, there needs to be restrictions on the amount of money teams can spend, stricter transfer regulations, and strict guideline/penalties around tampering and agent involvement.
If that doesn't happen, I firmly believe we will see more and more coaches doing what Tony Bennett did and Dabo may be one of them.

I think a decision of whether he intends to change course and learn how to succeed in today’s game needs to be made now and not in a couple of 3 years.
Waiting that long will only put the program that much further back. By then you could see a team so void of talent they will be unrecognizable.
He has to decide this year.

How do you "get rid of" arguably the best head coach to ever coach at Clemson. It is the same predicament Florida State was in with Bobby Bowden. As long as he wants to coach he will be here. I will say that have never seen him so miserable though. His posturing and body language after and during the Louisville game and at other points over the past 3 years has been awful and it just seems like he is miserable. He is constantly trying to blow out fires he kind of started, with a fan. As long as he thinks he can fix it, he will be here and I think Dabo's pride will have a lot to say about how long he stays.

Thats a good point about his level of outward happiness.
Personally I think his whole reason for coaching beyond the love of the game is to positively affect the lives of young people that are part of the program. The game he knew growing up, playing and coaching has changed. Figuratively the earth has shifted under his feet. I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that he is wondering how does he best continue to positively affect the team around him in this new world (adapt) OR if its possible for him to do that at the level he wants to (leave).
Sure part of the posturing and body language you speak of is due to the losses, and that is because he cares. I think in his heart he is wrestling with something much bigger and we can see it.

I think its a decent chance (~20%) its after this year. I would say 50-60% chance its within 3yrs.
If he lasts more than 3yrs it will be closer to 10 before he steps away

Yeah, you could be right about that. On balance I don't really expect it, but if there were a perfect storm I could maybe see that. But it would probably involve losing another ACC game and the Carolina game and maybe even a bowl, and the Dabo-Fanbase relationship getting pretty toxic.

I see two possible scenarios:
1. Dabo will dig his heels in and remain as head coach for the next 10-15 years because he sees himself as Clemson Football, and uses the platform to shake his fist at everyone telling him he must adapt. Continue to collect his fat checks, set up his kids and friends for life, and baptizing players at practice. All the while, Clemson will become a 2nd tier program.
2. Dabo will retire when his last son graduates, 2-years, and hand over the reigns to his prodigy, Tyler Grisham. If not Grisham, it will be someone of his choosing.
Call it stupid or crazy but whatever happens, Dabo holds the future of Clemson Football in his hands and the school has given him the ability to do whatever at his will.

No. In fact, I was thinking about this just yesterday. I don't blame Bennett and I certainly wouldn't blame Dabo. I think they are both honorable men who try to do things the right way and the sports they coach have become completely lawless, with no frameworks, and encourage mercenary mentalities among the players. Another way of saying they have become cesspools. I sort of think it's coming in the next couple of years unless the sport gets some rules.

and will refuse to adapt. It happens every year.
A lot of coaches quit when they realized they couldn’t handle paying players under the table like all the big boys did.
I’m sure a lot quit when football integrated and decided they couldn’t handle that. ####, a lot probably quit when they allowed the forward pass and decided that wasn’t real football any more.
I hope he isn’t that soft that he does but you can never say never.
And as far as the “health” of of the game, I don’t think it’s healthy that a coach can collect $11 million a year and not make a playoff for 4 years but that’s where we are.
I hope he stays around and decides to adapt with the times but it’s hard to say definitively one way or the other.

The current free-for-all is changing college football into something that is unrecognizable. He certainly has enough money to do anything he wants for the rest of his life, and I suspect he would use that money for a benevolent and admirable purpose.

If it were not for the upcoming court settlement, which is supposed to rein in NIL and pay players directly, I think he would call it a day. I was thinking the other day that I can't recall a coach who made it to the mountain top, dropped from the top tier, then was able to get back on top. It seems like coaches have one opportunity to make it big and once lost, can't be recovered.
I don't think Neff would let him pick the replacement although his input would be respected.
It is unlikely the next coach would be able to replicate Dabo's success.
Most fans would like Dabo to stay but only if he changes so we can be a top tier team in the current environment.

Clemson will win another natty within 4 years....but it still won't matter to tnetters. they'll still be hating on Dabo. it's pure Dabo Derangement syndrome. The national media has a pretty good dose of it as well.

Because NIL deals with the right young men and women athletes have to make money, it is very doubtful that Congress will change the law unless they want to make lawyers very rich.

Nothing would surprise me. The thing Dabo has to decide is whether he wants to coach a professional college team, because the college teams and college football in general, no longer exist like they used to, unless you want to go back to being a military school.
Like it or not, college is now a professional sport with paid players. And the market is going to move forward, supply and demand will take hold, and the price for success will go up.
Whether Dabo is ready to accept that, and become the head of a program that has to compete in this new environment or not, is something he has to come to grips with. However, he needs to make a decision and get on with it, one way or the other.

1. Agree Dabo, to Bennett's quote, is "only doing it half-way" when not seriously pursuing portal transfers at target-need positions.
2. Dabo is certainly financially able to take a stand and walk away. But I don't see that happening. He wants the pay (which I expect he is generous with), he loves his job/the limelight/what he's built at Clemson, and leaving would impact his 3 sons advance ramp into college coaching and the jobs of at least fifty friends & family.
