Giant missed opportunity! Coach from North Texas

He has signed with Texas Tech and won the NIT. NT never made the NCAA recently until 2yrs ago and win the NIT this year. He has been there 5 years and look at their win percentage compared to the years before. Look here:

Since being hired as North Texas' 18th head coach on March 13, 2017, Grant McCasland has taken the Mean Green to new heights with accomplishments that had never been seen at UNT.

In five seasons, McCasland has a 104-58 (.641) all-time record as North Texas' head coach. He's led the Mean Green to three straight Conference USA titles, their first NCAA Tournament victory, first NIT victory, most single-season victories and most single-season league victories in program history among other achievements.

In each of the last three seasons, UNT has finished with a top 100 NET ranking, including a program-best No. 47 ranking after the 2021-22 regular season. Prior to McCasland's arrival, North Texas had never finished a season ranked in the top 100 of the NET/RPI.

Furthermore over the last three seasons against league opponents in all competitions, the Mean Green have the most wins (44) and have the best winning percentage (.785).

#This could be a huge hire! But don't worry Brad is on the same trajectory, or not!

We’re going to miss out on the FAU coach also, and that was perfect timing! Neff is pathetic!

Yes, the fact we don’t have an open position is why it is pathetic.

Sure we do. Based on our past 13 years - nobody is recruiting and coaching.

it seems that actual results are irrelevant and not a real consideration when it comes to evaluating the status of the men's basketball coach. On that basis, they are either perfectly content with inconsistency and mediocrity, or they just don't really give a ****. Frankly, I think it's the latter.

So we have "missed out" on a couple of coaches who are basically one hit wonders with zero experience at a G5 or P5 level? Look at baseball for the model. We chose an up and coming coach in Lee who had no major experience. He looked promising but crashed and burned. We then went big as we are committed to baseball success by choosing a coach with P5 experience. Seems like if we really want basketball success we need to find a coach who has been successful at the P5 level instead of taking the value route and hoping for the best.

I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with you

The "hey lets not try anything at all" attitude is the issue. At this point, Id take a hot shot highschool coach over this absolute clown we have.

Not sure how you got lets not try anything at all from my post. Guess reading comprehension is hard for some

Completely agree...

if the administration opts to continue this pattern of hiring experimental-type basketball coaches, they might as well just retain CBB. Perhaps that has been their mindset all along.

I disagree with that mindset completely

We know what we have with Brownell. Which is to say, very little. At least with an up and coming mid-major you have hope, new blood, a fresh mindset, energy injected into the program. SOMETHING different. Carrying on with the status quo isnt working. Period. Try SOMETHING! ANYTHING!

The worst ACC coach to have more than 7 seasons in the 64 team era but sure “he’s great”.

12 of 13 seasons finishing outside of the Top 35 season-ending AP Poll. At least we are consistent but I don't think that is the consistency we are looking for.

“Continuing this pattern”. ### are you talking about? Assuming Brad gets year 14 his tenure will be DOUBLE that of any coach at any of the 15 ACC schools in the 64 team tourney era (39 years) with less than 30% attendance in the big dance. Cliff was here a decade and was fired/resigned over a second round of NCAA infractions. Larry Shyatt, the only coach we fired for performance, was the lead assistant for our best head coach ever and was already successful in his first season as a head coach. Rick Barnes came from Providence - a school with dramatically more basketball history than Clemson. Purnell was extremely successful at Dayton. These weren’t guys that had no history and suddenly made a Sweet 16 and everybody went ape sh*t. Brad has been given an absolutely unprecedented opportunity at an ACC school and has failed - it’s time to stop candy coating it. Brad sucks. #firebrad

He is the Assoc head coach of Cleveland Cavaliers.

He has NBA connections.

He WANTS the Clemson job and he has the mindset and experience that Clemson needs to win in the ACC.

How do you feel about the quitter that just transferred from the Air Force Academy? Good or bad for Tiger basketball?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So if a player transfers to another school he’s a quitter?

3

Mar 31, 2023, 9:29 AM

Wow.

Using your logic, wouldn’t a coach who leaves for another school also be a quitter?

Judge stated this on another site in regards to Brown-L not getting guys to the NBA

Again the football mentality strikes the CU fanbase. You have to have NFL talent to win in football.
You don't need NBA talent to win in college basketball. In fact, the most "talented" teams rarely win. If that were the case Duke and UNC and Kansas.....would never lose. Does having one of those players help? Sure. But they aren't required nor a guarantee.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.
