Garrett Nussmeier of LSU...

Seems to be a good enough passer but is pretty bad at running the football. Last year, in only 34 carries, he gained -38 yards, with his longest runs being 14 yards, which he did twice. He was only sacked 16 times, not bad, but he had an experienced Oline. This year four of the five Oline starters from last year are gone. I think if Clemson's front seven are really hungry and aggressive, Garrett may be spending a lot of time looking up at the sky. He scored three touch downs. Two were against South Alabama and one against TAMU.

Obviously, these numbers pale in comparison to Cade's....119 carries, 463 yards, with runs of 55 and 50, and 7 touch downs. The Tigers should take advantage of this.

Having this game at home is a godsend.

Defense should be able to feed off the home crowd. Would love us to set the tone early getting after him to let him know it's gonna be a lonnnnnng night in Death Valley.

Also, would love to see our offense show up out the gate ready to run. I ain't counting on it to be flawless day one but would love to see us connect on some big plays for TDs.

Home field hasn’t helped so much last couple of years. Coots. FSU. Louisville. Sharing north upper with visitors hasn’t been fun.

I am not worried about this one, so long as Tom Allen has our defense ready.

I feel the same way , Balm. Telling my Coot kid brother just yesterday that Clemson should be a 2 TD favorite in the opener .
That may be a bit much , but I do like to see my brother get the red face.

They are filling in their roster with 17 transfers, 8 on each side of the ball, and a kicker. I do not see them getting out of the gate very well under Kelly, while we return the most production of any team in the country and this one is at home. I think 2 scores is fair.

I remember a home opener vs Auburn a few years ago when we had 11 sacks. I’d like to see that again August 30.

2017 season. I was at that Auburn game. The defense went absolutely insane that night. I still think that 2017 defense was the best under Venables, if not tied with the 2014 defense in all honesty.

Maybe Nussmeier has been working on that part of his game

Brian Kelly is aware enough of how important the legs of a QB are

Jayden Daniels showed that to Brian Kelly, even though it’s been a long time since running able QBs have been successful

I was going to say I’d try to be cautious of some other QB being used as a run threat throughout the game..

But their QBs are all “pocket passers” according to their recruiting profiles.

I swear to goodness I will loose my mind if we come out the gate throwing the bubble screen.

Our pass rush was totally non existent last year so we have to prove we can get pressure with the front 4 . Otherwise Nussmeier will shred us if we have to start sending linebackers and extra rushers to get pressure .

One thing that benefits us coming into this game is that they have a ton of transfers and 1 year starters, that could help alot playing them the very first game. Much like ND stumbled in the opener last year against N ILL with all their transfers before they got it going, sometimes it takes awhile to gel and build that chemistry. Both starting Tackles will be new and pretty much an entirely new WR core coming in. They'll have talent, but we have to take advantage of the our experience advantage in this one.
