FSU may be pretty good

I’ve said it before, Dj made an already expected down year even worse. I think it was definitely going to be a down year in 2024 with Jordan Travis leaving, but then on top of that DJ was taken in. And he made it worse. Norvell hired Gus Malzahn at OC and and a new DC. He brought in Castellanos from BC, who really is a decent QB. He really is mobile and slippery.
I think it’s all about the trenches. They desperately need to pick that up. That seems to a recurring pattern with Florida State. Bad O-line play.
I just get the feeling Norvell isn’t an idiot and he knows what he’s doing. And yes, it pains me to say that.

Reasonable guess.

Vegas has the over/under at 7.5. I think 8-4 is the most logical guess, with 7-5 being more likely than 9-3.
Optimistically, I think 9-3 is the ceiling. But, a ceiling is something you seldom reach.

after what DJU did to ND in their house during the covid year when TL got covid, there has to be an ESPN 30 for 30 on what in the heck ever happened to that guy..
was it the parent's divorce? Was it the Bojangles NIL deal that made him put on a few pounds??

Had all year to gear up and prepare for Georgia that next year....and he stood in that pocket like an ancient statue holding the football. Then he was Stay Puft Marshmallow Man for the rest of the season after that. At that Notre Dame Game... even in a loss he was a precise assassin. WTH??????

That one play started out decent. We have started back up in my opinion but will have to use the portal the most ever for our 2026 team or we could get embarrassed.

My two cents ... Spending of at-the-time generous NIL funds, complete lack of coaching & development, and immaturity and lack of discipline leading to massive weight gain.

The coaching talent has been upgraded SIGNIFICANTLY. If it hasn't, then FSU is in trouble and Norvell will soon be sking Jimmy Sexton to find him another job.
The talent is not 2-10 bad, but it is also not 10-2 good either. The 13-0 season was in spite of the coaching, not because of the coaching. If FSU goes 9-3 this year it will be because of the coaching more more than because of the talent. Example: FSU will have at most one guy (DT, Darrell Jackson) on first team ACC. Probably only have 4 or 5 2nd or 3rd team list.
The OL line will be better. 5 new starters, all transfers from P4 teams who were starters on the team they transferred from. They will be far better coached, for sure. But, how soon can they gel, and how soon will they buy in to Herb Hand (the OL coach)?
The defense will be more agressive and physical than last year, but that is a low bar to clear. The common word used to describe last year was "soft." And, that is an underestimate. The 13-0 team had 5 guys drafted and, I think, all 5 are still on a NDL roster now. Jared Verse and Braden Fiske covered up a world of sin for that defense. (Just go watch the ACC championship game and see how those two guys dismantled the Louisville offense.)
The journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step. The journey back from 2-10 is a long journey. It won't be completed in 1 year. But, this year better be a good start down that road or Norvell is in trouble.

I think pairing Gus Malzahn along with Thomas Castellanos will play out very well. And ironically, you more than most people should know about what Malzahn did with Nick Marshall. Because of the scare they gave you in 2013. I think Malzahn ought to try and use Castellanos similarly, as I see similarity to Nick Marshall in the way Castellanos plays. Gus is at the very backend though. He said he was going to retire if not for this job. We’ll see about that.

Norvell has been a bad coach whose teams were less than the sum of their parts every season at FSU, other than the one where he caught lightning in a bottle. Odds are they underperform again this season.

When you bring in basically a new team every year it's hard to predict results.
You just have to hit on a LOT of the chances you take to be really good.
One question is why you think a coaching staff that thought DJ was the answer has started evaluating better.
He wasn't a likely success that just missed. We all knew he was going to be a dumpster fire and so did anyone who watched him at Clemson or at Oregon State.

FSU has to open with Bama, play Clemson and Miami (all preseason ranked top 10 or so) and Florida...an 8 win season would be a triumph for this rebuilding team.
