Fit or Fat

Old is Old

My heart beat rises quickly these days when I do most things. Unlike most folks, I have tracked mine closely for decades and find this interesting.
My base pulse is similar to age 40 as is my top pulse. The effort required to raise my pulse from 60 to 150 takes almost nothing these days, maybe just grabbing a beer from the fridge.

Boston Marathon was last week. There at age 45 I might do 6:15 pace for 26 miles, and it would stay around 150. Now a 15 minute pace for 3 miles will do that for me.
It is not just about being fit or fat, but getting older. Older makes one less fit, less able to take on the day.
I hate that about me.

I have a small one near my porch chair so I do not have to get up.
I need to cover a lot more than 3 miles by the end of this year to reach my goals.

Old man time is gaining on us. I still do what I used to do around the farm but what used to take a day went to a day and half and now it may be 2 days but I eventually get it done. I just get started, find my rhythm and have at it.

You had a 6:15 pace for a 26 mile marathon?

Dang, brother - that's FAST, especially at 45!

I'm 55 and my best pace at a half marathon is around 9:50 or so. I'd like to do a marathon, but honestly, I really don't want to be running for over 4 hours!

I don't want to run a marathon because I don't want to end up dead after an hour

I know. I am the same.

At 47 broke the Kiawha half record in SC with 1:17:17.
At 50 reset the NC state record.
Few people with a job or a family can do that due to the training needed.
I had neither.

I feel you. Going up stairs or a steep hill is my killer. I have to shed weight but am having a hip replacement this summer and can only do so much exercise.
