I'm on the Hammerhead bandwagon! Before that it was 1967 Jimmy "Thread the Needle" Addison.

It was never "Thread the Needle" for Jimmy Addison. I played with him so I know. He was called "Needle" because he was skinny as a sewing needle....... Only weighed 147 lbs.

And, Cairo - the town in south Georgia - is pronounced "kay-roe" not like the city in Egypt.
Side note - There is also a little town in south GA (between Moultrie and Valdosta) named Berlin.
It is pronounced "BURR-lun" not like the in Germany.
Side note 2 - There is an even smaller town near Moultrie named Doerun. It is not pronounced like a female deer sprinting through the forest "DOE-RUN", it is pronounced "Door-un."

North East (PA) Grapepickers. Yes they grow a lot of grapes there and have a Welch’s processing plant in the small town. Another interesting fact is this town is in about as far NORTHWESTERN PA as you can get. It’s about halfway between Cleveland and Buffalo.

Wasn’t William Perry originally called “GE” ( refrigerators) in his freshman year? Then it turned into The Fridge and The Refrigerator Perry.

Cordele, HS.
Someone should also mention, from that same era, Stan Rome - a teammate of Tree at Rollins who is from Valdosta, GA.

even for Dawgs - those are memorable names.
and the best baseball name ever: Ted "The Splendid Splinter" Williams
Good baseball nicknames are a lost art. I can't even remember a Braves player in the last 20 years with a great nickname - who am I missing? Don't include Frenchy.. that's not a baseball name.
