Do 1st round playoff losers still go to a bowl game?

The winners automatically get selected to the bowls to play those teams with byes, but if you lose seems to me those teams still could get selected to the bowl games played around New Years since those 1st round games are played in mid December.
Anyone know?
If they don't, I guess was their Bowl trip. Kind of weird. Think it's setting up to a 16 team playoff using the Bowl games as the playoffs games.

Was just thinking of that on the bowl predictions post.
Of course bowl games select their teams after the conference championship games. So could some of the bowl games played a week or later after those 1st round games say the loser of those games?
Has anyone stopped and thought of that?

IDK but it makes no sense to not capitalize on top ranked teams...

getting to the better bowls. For, if so then lower ranked teams would be selected for those certain limited number of bowls which qualify for playoff bowls in the rotation.
It would also end the season very early if those early PO games happen in Mid-December. It all seem like it's taking less advantage of the higher ranked teams to me. But, as I said, IDK.

It might be asking a lot of fans to travel to a far 1st round game for a loss and then quickly plan during the holidays and go to a bowl game, but what do I know I’ll be home for the bowl games

I don't know the answer.
I would speculate that with the 1st round games in December 20 and 21, that the losers ho home.
The other bowl invites will already be sent. It would give a playoff loser minimal practice time for a bowl game. The New Year's 6 bowls are mostly 2nd round playoff games so they wouldn't be available.

My understanding, and correct me if I am wrong, the first round games are played at the higher seeded home field. How can that be considered a "Bowl game" for either team? I would think that the losers would still be able to go to a true bowl game.

The playoffs are bowl season. If you make the CFP, then regular bowls are not in play. The CFP is higher. It’s a tourney. You lose and your season is over.

So with 32 bowl games - 2 semi final games, teams ranked from 13-43 (will be there due to G5 team in playoffs in Top 25) will be in bowls.
Using the AP that would be these 30 teams
13 Kansas State
14 Oklahoma State
15 Oklahoma
16 LSU
17 Notre Dame
18 Michigan
19 Louisville
20 Iowa State
21 Clemson
22 Nebraska
23 Northern Illinois
24 Illinois
25 Texas A&M
Others receiving votes: Memphis 77, Syracuse 62, Boise State 62, UNLV 54, Boston College 47, Washington State 30, Iowa 15, Arizona 15, Indiana 13, California 11, Liberty 10, Toledo 9, UCF 6, South Carolina 3, North Carolina 3, Arizona State 3, BYU 2,

Northern Illinois would be in the CFP. #12 Utah would, too, as the presumed Big12 champ. #11 USC would be out.

Interesting dilemma. I would imagine that this December teams will learn which is better? I suppose for 1st round games maybe the losers would be granted extra practice sessions anyways? Can you say no to the playoffs as a 12 seed in favor of a bowl games and the extra practices? I wonder if the higher ups already thought of this?
