Dabo Magic..

Dabo seems to be able to keep the coaching teams together, look how long he kept key guys like CBV…. I hope he can do that with Garrett Riley, now that the system is meshing and producing big time…. I would imagine other teams will have a target on him for head coaching gigs…. I hope we get to keep him for a long time…..

That’s the only problem with hiring a Riley. If he’s anything like his brother, he will be gone as soon as he gets a decent offer. The good thing about them, I don’t think he will leave unless it’s for a big time program.

My theory...

We will have a very good offensive year and Garrett will get hired as a HC somewhere.

Dabo told Jeff Scott to take a year or two off, enjoy living in Clemson with his family and then when Garrett leaves he will rejoin as OC and Recruiting Coordinator.

He might replace his brother.***

His brother Lincoln has only had 2 HC jobs, Oklahoma and USC and he was the OC/QB coach at OK before becoming the HC. Garret started coaching at HS level, jumped to NCAA Div 3 and up to Div 1. I don't think he will leave Clemson unless he gets a P4 HC jobs and he may be selective before he leaves like other Clemson Coordinators.

While there has been improvement if I'm an AD at a big name program his offense needs to produce against an elite program before making that hire. Even at TCU it couldn't against UGA but it did against very bad Big 12 defenses.

The talent discrepancy between UVA and TCU was so great I dont believe there is a coordinator alive who could have made enough of a difference to bring TCU the win. Assuming we can get to the playoffs, we will see how his offense works against a similarly talented team.

Garrett seems much more reserved and uncomfortable in the spotlight

than his brother. It's going to take him awhile to change that. Also, his brother's experience at Southern Cal and the high level of pay for coordinators these days may influence him to go a bit slower in his search for a good landing spot for his first head coaching gig.

He's got an excellent QB with another year to improve in Klubnick. He's got his kind of QBs lined up in Vizzina, Hebert and Tait - big strong guys with excellent speed to the point that it suggests he has had conversation with them all about his future plans to remain at Clemson for a good bit longer. Clemson and the surrounding lakes - a great place to raise a family and have a great life.

He's only 35 years old. I don't think Garrett is any hurry to move into the head coaching ranks.
