It's obvious that 90% of people on this board don't watch a ton of basketball. I thought i would pass on some general information so that you can relax while watching clemson basketball games.
- A 10 point lead is not a huge lead in basketball. That lead can evaporate in just a minute of gameplay with a few missed shots on our end, and a a few made baskets on their end.
- the margin for error is very small In basketball. For example, if we go 12-28 from 3 and pitt goes 13-34, then they win by 10+ likely. It doesn't mean our effort was awful and our coach sucks. It would be because their shot making was better than ours. They certainly have players capable of making some of the shots they missed.
- college basketball is a game of runs. To act like it is completely unacceptable for a team to have a scoring run on us is stupid and insane.
I hope this helps.

Yeah, I'd say that's probably close. 90% that post probably just watch our games. Not like you guys, nctigs jk etc that watch cross country games.
It's quite comical to see the posts during the game, but hey, wouldn't be different than sitting at the game. As nctigs, just human nature.
What's nauseating to me is how many whiny posts there are about officiating. Acting like some big conspiracy against Clemson.

Good point, but fans will be fans. Nature of the beast.
That was great win yesterday. Pitt is still a good team, and expect them to start figuring it out and get on a roll soon.. Trying to get Dunn the forward back in the rotation after and injury he had. They have one of the best back courts in the country with Lowe and Leggit. Lowe is a future 1st round draft pick as a sophomore. Start pulling for them to stay in top 30-35 in NET.
The Tigers climbed to 31 in NET and 26 in Kenpom. If not this week, Win both these games coming up this week and should be ranked again next week with a few loses from teams in lower top 25. Links:

Yeah, Pitts record should be pretty good because they're fixing to play a lot of lower net teams. Really only 5 games that should be competitive. Not as good as I originally thought. Got out the gate with dominant win over west va. Played wisky really well and, at the time looked like a great win over Ohio St.
Just saying, originally thought Pitt was a solid t25 team.

I think they still are. Remember they started the ACC Conference season slow last season and went on a tear and won like 10 of 13 of their last ACC games and should have made the NCAAT. I think they will probably do something similar. They don't play again till a week from yesterday and think that is huge for them and have two big games coming up vs Wake and UNC and could see them winning both of those.

Somewhat true but a slippery slope to accepting mediocrity

Good rebounding, solid defense, minimizing turnovers and great passing creating assists are crucial elements of the game. More importantly, these aspects of the game mitigate the ebbs and flows of shooting.
So can’t fully buy in to just rationalize and accepting “scoring runs” as a part of the game that cannot be controlled. Player effort and executing fundamentals in the other elements are critical components of winning basketball _and a reflection on coaching. Sometimes fans see and point out these other issues.

Ok so it's not enough to win tough conference games on the road, we need to be perfect now.
Reading the mid-game threads on tigernet you'd think we were getting smoked by 20+ points when in fact we pulled off a solid win against a good team.

Let me elaborate specifically on things that contribute to scoring runs

Turning the ball over, giving up offensive rebounds, missed defensive assignments etc. Good players will make shots _ give them fewer opportunities and inhibit them with solid defense.

The 4-5 straight possessions at the end of regulation is what is concerning . We turned it over on 4 straight trips without even getting a shot off . Then coming out of a timeout had no clue the shot clock had 8 seconds left . These are self inflicted wounds that you can’t have in close games . This team can be as good as last year but have to play with a higher IQ down the stretch of these games . Brownell even said it in postgame that it was not acceptable that they didn’t realize the shot clock was at 8 seconds .

yep those were something that normally cost you a game. When we got to OT the way it was being called I figured the refs would give them some late call that could do us in. Apparently these 2 teams are two of the better tf and 3 point shooting teams in the ACC. It really helped we saved the ball on a potential tie up and had the posession arrow in our favor late since we had use the lat regular season time out.

Statistically speaking, there are data that track 10+ scoring runs without the other team scoring a point in college basketball.
For the 2024-25 season, Clemson has done this 13 times (or approximately 0.68 times per game). Among the ACC, they rank 5th in the average number of times going on such runs behind SMU (1.22 per game), Pitt (1.06 per game), Duke (1.00 per game), and Stanford (0.72 per game). Out of the 364 teams in the NCAA, they rank 78th in the number of 10+ scoring runs per game.
However, Clemson has had 11 times where opponents have gone on 10+ scoring runs without Clemson scoring (or 0.58 times per game) Among the ACC, this ranks 16th in the average number of times opponents have done that to Clemson ahead of only Miami (0.61 per game) and Georgia Tech (0.79 per game). And out of the 364 NCAA teams, this ranks 240th.

Wow, now that's impressive. That's next-gen stats stuff there. I'm sure Brad and team use these tools to coach up our guys.
That said, we're far from peak. SChief is really struggling with injuries. I'd love to see him sit in the cuse game. We'll win it with or without him. But I don't pretend to know bball. But I do know enough that imo, our passing has improved dramatically over the last few years. Our guard play is elite in creating space to shoot. I think wiggins will come on late season. He seems to lack confidence and probably could shoot more, and drive down low.

To follow up on your point about runs, people also need to acknowledge that scoring droughts happen. The freak out here when we go a few minutes without scoring is unnecessary and illogical. All teams go on scoring droughts. That is how runs for the other team happen.
Also, being 7-1 in conference play is a big deal. Not many Clemson basketball teams have done that.

Cue ACC sucks during Brownell’s tenure comments. Blah, blah, blah.
If we are going to pick and choose poor moments during games, shouldn’t we also celebrate the great ones?
Chase or Wiggins hitting the three Jaeden and Dillon scrambling for a loose ball. Chef tuning a potential TO into points
Some on here are Clemson fans until they are unmasked. Yesterday's close game showed who our chickens in Tiger's clothing are.

You seriously have hearing truths . We just want this team to be more than a 1 win team come tourney time and they have to eliminate the boneheaded spells for that to happen .
