Cast Iron Question
Mar 14, 2022, 1:18 PM
|
|
My older POS sister got all my moms cast iron cookware, so I never have had a good pan. I want to get one and be able to sear steaks and cook bacon in the proper manner.
Can I just buy and use for a party tonight? Or do you HAVE to season it first?
I don’t care how cool you are with you collection of cookware, just tell me yes or no and save the rest for your nerd cooking friends. Smooches.

You can try...

lodge comes "pre-seasoned" but it ain't great seasoning. But it might work. How much experience do you have cooking on cast iron?
Do you have a williams sonoma or other high end cooking store you can access? They can probably sell you a higher end piece that will cook well right off the bat.

Williams and Sonoma is definitely closer, but Cabelas is only about 45 away. Might try W&S first.
Thanks!!

oil her up bake at 350 for an hour and you are good to go. It will work without seasoning too. Seasoning just makes the surface smoother.

Whatever you end up purchasing be sure to scrub it

Hard with soap and warm water for using. Maybe run it once or twice in the dishwasher. This removes any residue from the smithing process.
