I have a lot of respect for this team has done. I have a lot of respect for what Rittman has done.

These young women have shown fight all year, and did until the final out. They had a great season and should be very proud of their accomplishments this year!

That said, it doesn’t mean there isn’t criticism to be had. The defense has been bad every year of the program. That’s a problem every year. That’s on Rittman b/c it’s a pattern.

And, these young women not being in OKC is all on Rittman when he didn’t even try and manufacture the winning run with a hitter batting .219 (at the time, worse now) and 3 Ks on the day at the plate. There is no excuse not to lay down the suicide squeeze with 3rd and 2nd with 0 outs. It’s softball and you need one run. Your worst hitter is at the plate in this scenario. He was already having her bunt before the wild pitch that gifted us 2nd and 3rd. Just no excuse to not trust her when you’ll still have a runner on 3rd with 1 out, even if it doesn’t work.

Rittman should be grilled about this decision. I’ll praise him plenty, but he is not above the criticism he deserves. After 6 seasons, have your players more skilled defensively and be able to manufacture a run with 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs. I honestly don’t think it’s that much to ask for and it cost this team their CWS appearance.
