Conference definitely negotiating from a position of strength

Particularly in the case of FSU, but I think we are both stuck. Only reason I would see them giving anything is if they think that contract is not quite so ironclad. To hold all the cards and still make concessions would be a fail. I guess “peace in the valley” is worth something, but not much…and to give anything up would be a bad precedent to set.

I think it is a position of weakness.

This is an ACC proposal, not an FSU proposal, unless I am badly mistaken.
FSU didn't go to Phillips and say, "If you give us this, we will drop the lawsuit." Pretty sure it was the ACC floating the proposal. At least that is the way I understand it.

It's an ACC proposal.
The leverage FSU and Clemson have, in my mind, is that ESPN must pick up the extension clause by 2/25 or the ACC-ESPN contract ends. I think ESPN wants the contract if Clemson and FSU remain in the league- if they leave they probably will not extend.

The ESPN article from Hale/Adelson says it’s a proposal from FSU/Clemson. Another article says it’s a proposal brought to the University presidents without saying who brought it forward. I think it’s important to clarify where the proposal originated, but based on what’s proposed, it sure seems likely it came from FSU/Clemson’s side.

You're right, but I usually don't directly correct newbies, I don't want to scare them off Tigernet.

My understanding is that the current proposal being discussed was put forward by Clemson and/or FSU. The original post would be the conference’s sarcastic response to that proposal.
But if I am wrong and the current talks were initiated by the ACC, then I agree with you…the renegades must have the upper hand.
It all depends on who made the proposal.

I think the ACC is smart enough to recognize playing hardball means FSU/Clemson are gone, be it sooner or later. Making concessions to appease their 2 most valuable brands might lead to a long term solution for the ACC. Unlikely, but it also might result in a cease fire in the courtrooms.

If they are conceding then the GOR must not be so "ironclad"

Drawn out lawsuits are expensive for all involved. That by itself is enough to try and find a solution that everyone can live with.

And the ACC must feel there's enough room in the actual wording that our lawyers now have access to for this not to be an open and shut affair.

Typical defeatist ACC thinking. None of the ACC schools have any interest in shortening it so the TV deal comes up sooner (2030) around the same time the B1G and Big 12 does. I guess they have no ambition to make more money. Sad.

this out - those that are in the middle tier like a VT, NCSU, etc. All of the original group of 7 that was discussed last summer at a min. The ones that realize while being in ACC til 2030 is better but with new contracts, Big 12(if they can’t get P2)with them included might trump ACC 2030-2036 because they could distance themselves from the WF, Duke and BCs. They also realize 2027-2030 could be risky due to ESPN option and ESPN may be indicating - hey, it’s better if we line all this up at 2030 vs running the risk of losing the marquee ACC teams to Fox prior.
