They told her they would have 60,000 applications for 4,000 spots this year. Holy mackerel, glad my kids already have their Clemson degrees.

I believe those degrees in the “ole days” were a little harder to get! I’m sure the kids are smarter!

My standard comment is that CU wasn't that terribly difficult to get into back then. But it was d... hard to get out of with a degree.
That was my impression anyway.
I didn't know anyone with a 4.0.
Now they seem to be a dime a dozen.

Maybe sorta....Once upon a time. Not so much anymore.

Kids may be smarter but degrees are easier as well. Likewise

I think that’s mainly because everyone applies for college now. God forbid your kid doesn’t go to college.

It's 36% acceptance rate for the freshem starting next week

As South Carolina tax payers who fund a college for our children to attend, we should be dissed that barely 50% of the enrollees are South Carolinians.

As well as the discrepancy in cost of a 4 yr degree

For Clemson, usc, citadel compared to schools in ga, nc, and fla. I can’t understand how our state supported schools are 6-9 k more per yr than our neighboring states. I do understand that my kid starts his junior year at Clemson in 2 weeks and it is taken quite a toll on the budget

appliance repair, plumbing, construction, electrical work, first responder, nursing..

Careers and vocations that don't need a once traditional 4 year degree and are actually in high demand.

I agree with you, but if you tell your guidance counselor that’s your plan they probably look at you like you have two heads.

I went to College (Clemson) in 1973 to get an "education", not a "degree" - although I thought the degree would simply come with the education. I finally got my degree in Architecture 13 years later with only 6 credit hours short of a double major in English. I earned a good living with my degree, but it's my education and experience in school that I value most today. There is no finer higher education in America than attending Clemson University and applying yourself to actually LEARN.

GO TIGERS, and let's prove it!!!

I had applied and gotten accepted, and it was "Move-in" day. And, as I have recounted before, it was the ONLY school I even applied to. I was extremely lucky that the Lord looks out for idiots sometimes. He put me exactly where I was supposed to be.

My daughter just graduated from Clemson with high honors and still had to wait forever to get in. They definitely wouldn't have taken me in in today's world😂
