Modelo Especial?

I had no idea it was that popular, I've never tried one.

It's pretty good. I prefer Dos Equis (green)

Jun 14, 2023, 9:12 AM

And by prefer I mean Dos Equis is better than any light American beer anyway. But that's just my opinion, I may be wrong.

Negra Modelo is FAR superior and there are much better

"Mexican" lagers made by giant corporations than Modelo Especial.

Like Pacifico, Tecate, Sol, and Victoria just to name a few.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Si. Pacifico muy 'ta 'ueno. PERO,

1

Jun 14, 2023, 9:18 AM

Tecate is pretty giant tambien.

All of those are good though.

And agree re Negra.

Both LiveNation venues here serve Pacifico which is great

until you remember you are paying so much for a "cheap" beer.

$12 at GLA and $16 at Live Oak Bank.

Sol is excellent beer, but lets leave it at "its not low in

calories".

You drink a few sixers of that over a week or two, and you'll know it in pants (and not in a fun way).

Pacifico and Victoria made by same giant corporation as modelo and corona

Groupo Modelo makes them all, IIRC***

Also, in a roundabout way, I think Modelo and all the others

4

Jun 14, 2023, 9:25 AM

are owned by ABInBev which also owns Bud Light.

Whatever all that means for people wanting to boycott a beer because they supported a trans person is up to them. Ultimately though, we can laugh at all of those people because they thought Bud Light tasted good. It's always been a trash beer.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't laugh at them for poor taste; taste is subjective.

4

Jun 14, 2023, 9:29 AM

I mean I drink natty light, on purpose, sometimes even as an "FU".

I'll laugh at them because their identities are so wrapped up in something so non important as beer, that they get butt hurt if the company changes their marketing campaign.

I don't think it was the marketing campaign itself that

1

did the damage so much as the response doubling down and insulting their entire customer base. They could have rode it out fine if it wasn't for that, shockingly many people won't buy your product if you insult them. Now it's just become a big joke.

It'd be like Freeman donating a boat to the Sea Shepherds, and in response to criticism calling all offshore fishermen low IQ savages. It will be a case study in what not to do regarding marketing and public relations.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How did they double down? I don't really recall much other

Jun 14, 2023, 10:41 AM

than people becoming outraged about some advertisement that I would never have seen had they not become outraged.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My understanding is there is a video of her essentially

Jun 14, 2023, 10:54 AM

calling the current customer base 'fratty' and 'out of touch'. If I recall, this marketing campaign also rolled out right on the heels of the tranny shooting up some kids in Tennessee, so the timing was also really fuggin bad.

Now we've evolved to you get called some variation of gay at the sandbar/bar if you drink a Bud Light, so people have just quit buying it since there are so many other options.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's no doubt it was a completely boneheaded move

Jun 14, 2023, 10:57 AM [ in reply to I don't think it was the marketing campaign itself that ]

by a marketing group who obviously had no idea who their customer base is/was. They should have stuck to funny commercials with dogs or something.

But if I were already a bud light drinker, I doubt I'd care one way or the other about their ads.

I think it's gonna take a little more than that, it's not even a boycott anymore it's abandonment. They've managed to alienate almost every potential customer they had lol. Everybody has jokes for someone drinking Bud Light now....Rednecks, businessmen, stay at home moms, even children, it's pretty hilarious.

I love Modelo. It’s Mexican Busch Light.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

These are my 2 favorite Mexican beers but hard to find

1

here

Leon and Montejo beers were originally brewed in Merida, Yucatan. Leon has been in production for over a hundred years; Montejo has been in production since 1960. Leon is a Munich, dark amber, and full-bodied beer, whereas Montejo is a pilsner with a light taste and aroma. Originally available only in the Yucatan region of Mexico, the brewer was taken over by Modelo in the late 1970’s and these two beers are now available across most regions of Mexico.

While looking this I learned -
The “Big Two” Beer Breweries in Mexico
The “big two” corporations managing the Mexican market today are Cerveceria Modelo (Grupo Modelo) and Cerveceria Cuauhtémoc-Moctezuma (FEMSA). Between them, they supply over 90% of all beer in Mexico and the country has overtaken the Netherlands as world leader in total beer production —helped by significant growth in exports to the neighboring U.S. beverage markets.

Today, domestic sales of beer exceed six billion U.S. dollars; exports account for some 2.2 billion U.S. dollars. The major brewers operate seventeen brewing plants in eleven states and support over ninety barley-producing centers across the country. They also run and manage one of the country’s most extensive and sophisticated retail distribution networks, which deliver their branded beers nation-wide—even to remotely located small towns and villages. More than 90,000 people in Mexico are employed directly by the big brewers and a further 800,000 indirectly.

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” Isaac Asimov
Panta Rhei Heraclitus

Leon and Montejo are decent enough beers.

Jun 14, 2023, 10:44 AM

We did 2 weeks vacation in Merida years ago and had both. Used to occasionally see Montejo show up in Total Wine but I've never seen Leon in the US. I'm not a huge fan of Dunkel style beers so probably wouldn't pick up more than a couple of singles if I did run across it. The vast majority of locals that we hung out with drank more Sol than anything else.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It sells like crazy man.

2

Jun 14, 2023, 10:19 AM

Company sells it in 3 counties in columbia area. We sell more modelo in those 3 counties than we sell Sierra Nevada in the whole state, and mind you Sierra is the number one craft beer brand in the state.
