Contract math - basketball

Jan 18, 2022, 11:21 PM

Brownell is getting a raise at the end of this year to over 3 million for the next 2 years. That’s a little over 6 million total.

His buyout is 3 million, which I’m sure we can negotiate down to 2, or pay over a longer period of time.

Which means we would need to find a coach for about 2 million a year to replace him within budget. We could do a 4 year deal where he makes 2 mill the first 2 years and then 3+ the last 2 years. Here are some coaches making less than 2 million:

Niko Medved
Darian DeVries
Drew Valentine
Dustin Kerns
Mike Boynton

These are names I would have wanted anyway. So the buyout isn’t really a factor.

If we could get Medved, we should do it. Kerns is intriguing — former Clemson grad too

I agree and . .

would be so happy with either one of those guys. Both know the area . .lets do it!!!!

Lol they ain't firing Brownell unless he gets busted with cocaine or hookers.

Jan 18, 2022, 11:23 PM

Or possibly both.

We had an awesome kicker that got busted with blow once

Jan 18, 2022, 11:25 PM

I have a plan!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like those....

Jan 18, 2022, 11:27 PM [ in reply to Lol they ain't firing Brownell unless he gets busted with cocaine or hookers. ]

But if we can get Steele at Xavier I would even pay more that that.

Medved is one of my favorites also.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He’s my pick.

Jan 18, 2022, 11:29 PM

But he’s making like 1.6 million and might be harder to get. These names are slam dunks in terms of them interviewing here.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sadly the administration seems content with mediocrity.

Apparently best is NOT the standard.

Your numbers are current. It’s $2.4 to buy him out at the end of this contract year and never gets significantly cheaper.

Thank you. I was using info from an October 2021 story

Just seems like it’s 3.12 million after this year and 3 with 1 year left. But appreciate you finding the right numbers for us. Kudos, sir.

I can’t see that article because of a paywall. Someone got it wrong. I’ll lean towards TNet getting it right but no way to know for sure. Either way, unless we’re literally going to ride the contract to the end no reason not to fire him.

You’re right

Jan 19, 2022, 12:05 AM

And obviously 2 more years of this just isn’t an option. I mean, it’s getting ridiculous.

“Someone got it wrong”

Lol…yeah that’s the P&C….it’s nothing but a bunch of looney CoC liberals that recycle AP garbage. No one at that paper can be considered a journalist anymore.

Your contract information is different than what I'm seeing. Where did you get that information?

Here's my source:

I will chip in $100 toward his buyout...how is Judge going to defend this performance?

Wait a minute. According to Valdamort - (name we should not say) - since BB gets a raise and we spend more money - then he should win a lot more games. Right? That extra money will finally motivate him to build our program instead of holding back since he did not make enough money.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not quite. From a salary standpoint...

Jan 19, 2022, 9:01 AM

Brad currently ranks 8th among the 15 ACC coaches (just ahead of Mike Brey and Leonard Hamilton) at $2.6 million annually.

The new contract that he signed back in October will pay him $2.6 million this season, $2.75 million in 2022-23 and 2023-24, and $3 million in 2024-25 and 2025-26.

I believe the buyout is $3 million.
