I've seen more backpedalling than deals so far.

Hey....backpedalling is fine with me.

Basically Trump is backing down on some of his nonsense and the market is reflecting that. That's great.

and put tariffs on just about all imports with little-to-no time between the announcement and when they took effect...then paused it to a lower level (that is still high) on everyone but China (and USMCA goods)...and oh, get this...China is now at 145%. One hundred and forty-freeking-five percent!

At the same time, he's trying to position to blame the Federal Reserve for whatever problems will come as the result and also threatening to politicize US monetary policy.

Those are facts AND math.

That's why when there's even a hint that he's going to walk back some of his asinine actions, the markets jump up.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

their sales are great. POS is up for them and shipments are moving. Consumer demand has not decreased. This is from soft goods to grocery. My bud who owns a couple of restaurants says sales are amazing.

I am down about 2.5% for the year. Heck, I have 17-19 more years to work. I am not worried one bit.

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

um...ok...not sure exactly how that applies to the discussion here, but...

we haven't seen the impact on consumer prices yet. I hope like heck it doesn't happen, but if the current situation holds for much longer, there will be significant price hikes across the board and it will for sure impact consumer confidence and it's already been in pretty sharp decline.

as of March 25th, consumer confidence is gaining again

which shows that your worry, due to your bad investments and gambling addiction, isn't driving negative sentiment in the consumer market....which is a good thing. I know its hard to say that something is good for you, but its good. Stop crying.

Well, no...the last index was what I linked from March 25...

Apr 23, 2025, 11:34 AM

and it was down...not up. That's the Conference Board Index - Did you read it? That's the one most people refer to. This is the latest one and it's down for the 4th month in a row.

Univ of Mich is another one often cited. It dropped sharply this month:

https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/11/economy/us-consumer-sentiment-april/index.html

So can you link the index you said has gone up??

And what the heck does this mean? "due to your bad investments and gambling addiction"

And when have I ever had trouble saying something's good for me?

In other words...what the he1l are you talking about?

The markets are speculative based on future expectations.

Apr 23, 2025, 9:24 AM [ in reply to So the market is just based on words and no facts or math.*** ]

Future expectations are influenced by geopolitical events, economic metrics, business results, sector trends, historical data, current government actions / policies and news of future policies.

Markets are attempting to predict the future with all current information. Erratic government policies inevitably result in erratic market conditions.

OK, you aren't listening, maybe I should clarify, foreign investment is moving out of the US. Until we change administrations and foreign policy. Whoever is unlucky enough to take Donald's place when he is shot, impeached, or chokes on a big mac, has some explaining and some serious arrse kissing to do. We know Trump is incapable of this. The entire idea from the international stage is to cripple America financially without taking themselves down. Have you seen the ten-year treasury yields? Everyone is pulling out of us securities, treasuries, and yes, private equity?

We are losing Bigly.
