Your Biggest Freshwater Fish ??

This comes to mind as I start fishing more often after Labor Day. I do less during Summer and let the speed boat people have the lake. I have lived on Hartwell the last 20 years, so mostly fish there now. I mostly troll or cast for Largemouth Bass. Sometimes I go Catfishing. In the Spring I fish for Striped Bass when they run up the River.
To date the biggest I have caught "in Hartwell" (per my unofficial scales) is this 19lb1oz Longnose Gar. I pick up a GAR from time to time. They are not easy to hook. I don't try for them, but they will hit an Original Rapala, then roll which tangles the line around their snout. I have also reeled in a couple hanging on to small Bass I had hooked. I have learned to keep gloves on the boat.
My best chance for breaking my Hartwell record would of course be with a Striper or Flathead as they get much, much larger than this Gar. I have reeled in a few of each around 15 pounds, but no giants.
Here is a good chart of fish in Hartwell: http://www.mylakehartwell.com/FishingChart.aspInformation about the species of fish local to Lake Hartwell
I grew up fishing in Wateree , caught some big Cats over 20#s there, but never weighted any.

That is funny. I have caught snakes in Wateree which is no fun. I have a fishing Kayak with a fish finder, but have not used it in a couple years. That gar above was caught in a canoe. I have seen no Gators in Hartwell, or Moccasins.

I still fish tournaments. Have one with MLF on Hartwell this month on the 11th and 12th.
Nothing I'd rather be doing than fishing the Savannah River Chain.
Biggest Tourney bass = 10lb.4oz

I lived in Lakeland, Fla for 5 years while on Navy recruiting duty. Most bass fisherman have heard tales of the phosphate mine pits. Fin and Feather was a exclusive private club and their private game warden was a retired MCPO and got me in. No dues and a key to the gates on the really good pits. A marine recruiter and I went to a pit that hadn't been fished in 8yrs. Caught a stringer of 11 bass that weighted 84lbs. Biggest I ever caught down there was 13lb4oz. Wish I had mounted it. Made it really hard to fish in regular water when I left.

years ago one of my all-time goals was to catch a rainbow big enough to mount.needless to say,it never happened.fast forward a goodly # of years,i was on vacation in maine.walked into a junk shop and staring me in the face was a 21" rainbow nicely mounted and in excelllent condition.so for $30 i had closure.had a lot of fun telling people yep,i got that fish in maine.later on i would tell them that i bought it,not caught it.salt water ambition was a sailfish-never happened.still on the list.

I am lazy so do catch and release as unlike my sainted Mom, my Yank Bride don't clean and cook. In my neighborhood most are snowbirds and don't fish unless they hire a guide.
Up the road is a guy born and raised in Oconee who only Crappie fishes. He has that down pat, is an expert. He has an outdoor cooking kitchen and knows how to cook. He always brings me over a plate. You can't buy fish and "fixings" that good down town.

I caught a freshwater pink dolphin on the Amazon River. I let it dry out on a pluff mudd river bank and never got around to eating it though. Supposedly good eating. Put up quite a fight though.

I think a dolphin is not a fish. I have some big turtles in my pond, and a Beaver at my dock.

Sounds like a nice place. I am getting the routine down of the nature of place where I live. Just bought it 4 months ago.. I have a large pond in front of my place with bass, but I don't like fishing. Anyway, the Geese fly in every day between 8 am and 8:30. Right on schedule and it looks awesome. They cut through the trees and skim on the glassy water and hang out for a few hours. Anyway, fish are packed in there. They are jumping all over the place. I just don't like fishing.

Biggest freshwater fish I have ever personally caught would have to be a channel catfish that weighed in the 20-25 lb range while on a charter in Lake Marion. The second runner up is my pb bass that weighed in at around 8.5 or so pounds. I recently got a fishing kayak (this past spring) and have been trying my hardest to get on a good striper in Lake Murray/Saluda River. Looking forward to taking it into the ocean to go after some big rays and sharks as well.

I have the wilderness systems ride 135. Its a few years older but I got it and trailer for under 700 bucks. Several modifications including an upgraded seat, fish finder, etc, and its a super stable fishing rig. Largest fish I have caught out of it so far is a 4lb largemouth. That will soon change though!

I caught my 2 biggest largemouth bass less than an hour apart on a golf course pond, 8 lbs and 8.25 lbs.
Fishing a farm pond with my dad one time. I hooked a dink and as I was winding it in, a big bass swirls right behind it looking for supper. My dad said be right back and grabbed his trusty white spinnerbait out of the truck. First cast landed him his largest bass ever 10 lbs. even. I still smile every time I admire it on the wall, spinnerbait still hanging from its mouth.

My granddad caught a couple of 35 pounders out of the Edisto River near Blackville years ago, a couple of years apart. He said they swam out of the ocean over 100 miles upstream to lay eggs. He caught them on their way back to the ocean.
