That's no way to treat a peaceful tourist just wanting a tour without a tour guide. What you can't smash the windows out and beat cops with weapons and storm the Capitol wiping feces on the walls, looting, and breaking into representatives offices threatening to kill people, what can you do? This country really sucks now. Where is our freedom?

Conspiracy requires an overt act.

[ in reply to Re: Seditious conspiracy charges against Jan. 6 morons ] |

So someone had to do something, but you are correct that it doesn't need to be successful. (And of course, they weren't successful.)
I note that seditious conspiracy is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, vs. rebellion or insurrection which is only punishable by 10 years.

Who cares what they charge?
Keowee cares what they charge. I was responding to him.
You care what they charge. You thought it was interesting that they were charged with conspiracy.
I'm addressing these comments about what was charged.

Then why do you oppose the investigation into Jan 6th? The committee just confirmed that Trump watched the Capital get attacked for 3 hours and did nothing. Do you not find this interesting and consider it a Dereliction of Duty? Asking for someone who believes in "law and order".

This has nothing to do with Pelosi or her Committee. They have zero power of prosecution.
This is a straight DOJ matter. And anything that comes out of the January 6th hearing is just a political football. The only way that stuff gets any teeth is if the Committee hands that evidence off to the DOJ, and after a thorough review of the facts and case and their own investigation, they agree that there's 1) an actual case there, and 2) there is sufficient evidence to win that case, because a weak case is going to be perceived as political and if they lose it's a massive egg on Justice's face.
If the Committee's got any smoking guns, we haven't seen them yet, and politicians tend to leak like sieves. They love running to the press and getting them some face time, you know?
This Oath Keeper conspiracy stuff is very different...and a whole new level. And if the DOJ gets a conviction - which I'd bet money on - anybody connected to it is going to be in very serious legal trouble.

He also supports and defends all police shooting EXCEPT Ashli Babbitt. Somehow, that one wasn't legit.
He only supports law and order that suits his partisanship.

They weren't going to go here unless they had the goods to make it stick. The prosecutors are well-aware of the optics of a failed prosecution on this.
It means they have the goods. Full stop.
Also means Roger Stone might have some 'splaining to do. Last time he got 40 months...but he wouldn't talk, and Trump commuted his sentence. But Trump has no more pardons to give out....

Not if it doesn't fit his political beliefs. In that case he will come up with some conspiracy theory to justify something.

I wish them all the luck in the world. And of course, the defendant's lawyers won't try one iota of Whatbout Ray Epps malarkey when it comes time to set foot in an actual courtroom, because they know even a Trump-appointed Federal judge would bounce them so hard out of the courtroom they'd land on the sidewalk. And probably disbar them for lying in a court proceeding on top of that.
Some crap just don't play in a courtroom. It's always fascinating to watch that rubber meet the road.

We'll see how much Gosar loves him some Oath Keepers after they pull down 20 for seditious conspiracy.
Part of me hopes he keeps right on running his yap. He'll talk and Tweet his way right into a jail cell if he keeps it up.

The horror, prosecuting a guy trying to take down the gubmint for, you know, seditious conspiracy. Which means: "for trying to take down the gubmint."
You try to take down a gubmint, you'd better succeed in taking down the gubmint. Otherwise it puts you in jail.
Little things, you know?
