It's hilarious to hear tnetters complain about the quality of ACC play in basketball more than they have in Football over the last 10 years. The ACC is a significantly weaker conference in football than it is in basketball. The media narrative is always argued with in Football, but agreed with in basketball. It's very strange.
Anyways, the media narrative the last 3 years (including this year) is that the ACC is one of the worst basketball conferences and of course the typical tnetter eats it up. This is mostly to minimize any successes by Brownell. The fact of the matter is that the top 10 teams in the league could compete with the top 10 teams in any league.
Below is the NCAA tournament records by conference combined for the last 2 years. ACC is at the top by a substantial margin.
ACC - 18-7 72% Big 12: 19-12 61% Pac 12: 7-7 50% Big East: 18-9 67% Big 10: 15-17 47% SEC: 14-13 52%

What you are saying is what most people fear about what happened to the ACC Sunday . The media narrative is shifting away from the ACC not only in football , but in basketball as well. I agree with you that the ACC name should carry more respect in basketball based on history but it doesn't matter anymore. The ESPN narrative moving forward is going to be push their tv deal cash cows which is SEC and BIG
It doesn't matter whether it's football or basketball , the ACC is going to be screwed over

Your entire post is a logical falacy. The relative strength of a 15 team comference =/= the post season performance of the best teams from each conference. We’re 7-0. Surely you can find something good to say that is actually true.

Correct. The strength of a conference is not only determined by how the best teams in the conference perform. That is not what i am saying.
I do feel like the strength of the conference is demonstrated more by the top 5-6 teams rather than the bottom few teams.
Do you think the mountain west was a better conference than the ACC last year going into the tournament? Because that's what the net ratings said.

“ Correct. The strength of a conference is not only determined by how the best teams in the conference perform” directly contradicts “the strength of the conference is demonstrated more by the top 5-6 teams rather than the bottom few teams”. The ACC has 15 teams the top 5-6 is only 1/3 of the conference. You’re comparing 1/3 of our conference to over 1/2 of theirs.
As for the Mountain West - NET and RPI say we were worse. ELO rankings say we were 5th and MWC 7th. The ACC had three teams (Louisville, BC, and FSU) who were worse than anything in the MWC. GT and ND pretty much equal to Fresno State, Air Force, Wyoming. Syracuse pretty much equal to San Jose St and UNLV. The remaining 6 teams in the MWC finished with SRS of 10 to 15.8. This is right in line with the seven best teams in the ACC - 10.5 to 15.8. They made a final. We didn’t. I think our 2nd and 3rd best teams were probably better than ours but little to suggest that 4-6 were much worse than our 4-7.
All of this belies the biggest problem. We’re debating, at all, whether the MWC is or is not the better than the ACC. The ACC is supposed to be the best conference in college basketball and for decades its lock on that was as secure as the SEC’s currently is on football. When the Big East passed us we raided them to make what was supposed to be a basketball super conference. That should go down as one of the greatest failures in the history of organized sports.

I know the ACC is a much better conference than the mountain west. You are trying to debate it. If the ACC did a similar challenge as they do with the SEC now, it would go heavily in The ACCs favor.
Seems like the mountain west's strategy is to not schedule power 5 non conference games and win them. Then they all have a decent NET and they just play each other the rest of the year.
Take ncaa tourney team Utah State for example. The only power 5 conference (or whatever you call it in basketball) they scheduled in the non conference was pac12's washington state. Washington state had a dismal non conference record. They only lose 2 non conference games (to crappy teams) and then they play only conference games for the remainder of the season against teams with an inflated NET.

Because its 15 teams versus 11. You are not comparing apples to oranges. There are more good teams? Sure. But we didn’t have anyone better than their best. SD State played in the final. If you cherry pick our 15 teams best 11 against their 11 then of course we should prevail. It’s a ridiculous assertion. You seem to fundamentally misunderstand what the strength of a conference means. It doesn’t mean are our best 5 better than their best 5. You don’t get to dismiss the worst teams in the conference just because it serves your purpose. And I’m not making predictions about this year but they would not have been rated higher than the ACC in RPI if they were scheduling bad teams. The RPI is the ultimate rewarder of W-L record - but 3/4 of the formula is your opponents w-l record and their opponents w/l record. Who you play is very important in that formula.

That's it, nobody from the ACC is better than san diego state because they advanced further in a singular tournament.
And farleigh dickenson, princeton and furman are better teams than any team that got knocked out first round too. Because viztiz logic and such.

You have used ACC success in the tourney many, many times to prop up the argument that it isn’t as bad as those rankings. Why, suddenly the about face on the importance of tournament play?

I have posted the ACC's tournament record a few times. Ncaa tournament record is a good indicator at how strong the top of your league is.
I have never once said or implied that a teams strength is directly correlated with how far they advance in a singular tournament. Unlike you, i realize there are upsets in college basketball. I realize that the best/most talented team doesn't always win.

Two separate entities. Football has always been a lesser strength of the overall conference. Top heavy with a couple decent teams. The adding of Miami, FSU and a couple others was to try and make us better. Instead it went down even more
Basketball was premier conference then. It has went down over the last few years and is weaker than the past decades. ACC basketball was king. Everyone knew that
It was not a shot at Brownell or an attempt to discredit our current Tigers. They look good so far. I just wanted realistic expectations and not snide remarks from the Brownell crowd

And Clemson people need to recognize that. You can nit pick all you want, but just check the numbers. The Lunatic Fringe is getting increasingly frustrated. ######! He's winning too much. Clemson is the only undefeated remaining in the ACC. This has to stop now or we're not going to get the firing we desperately want! Losers. Clemson will lose a game this season. Waiting on the LF Trolls to come out of hiding to yell FIRE!

This is a thread started by your fellow Bro who is projecting his own angst because someone else wanted to discuss the state of the ACC, which is far removed from its perch as the premier basketball conference. The “Lunatic Fringe” didn’t leave Clemson out of the tourney despite finishing 3rd in the ACC. Reconcile that with your best coach in the country nonsense.

The fact that your NCAA record list does not have either the conferences in alphabetical order, or the winning percentages from high to low, is bothering me more than it should.
