For any lurking Seminoles: Is Clemson FSU's biggest rival?
Oct 26, 2016, 7:05 PM

I read over the summer how some FSU players thought Clemson was the biggest game of the year. It was fascinating to hear because of Miami and UF. But I'd have to agree with that. Certainly South Carolina will always be our backyard #####, but it's FSU which normally determines the season.
What do FSU fans think? TIA.

Because UF and UM are on sabbatical from being consistent winners, it's our biggest game of the year. But UF will always be our biggest rival.

South Carolina is the game you most hate to lose.
Florida State is the game you most want to win!
I feel certain this applies in much the same way re: FSU and The Gators and Clemson.

And I the potential is there. Rival ? Yes. But like so many, our 2 huge rivalries have decades and generations of fans behind them.

Most years, Clemson is the game with the highest stakes for FSU. The winner avoids the conference loss while gaining the cushion of the tie-breaker advantage. So sure, it's our biggest game, though most fans are more concerned with holding state bragging rights vs the Gators.
This year, with FSU entering the game with 2 losses, the usual dynamic is absent. If FSU gets the upset win, Clemson remains comfortably in control of the Atlantic unless it loses another conference game, which is unlikely.
Meanwhile, the rise of Louisville changes the dynamic going forward, doesn't it? Assuming they continue to play at a high level, it sure increases the (previously dim) possibility that the loser of the FSU-Clemson game could still end up going to the ACCCG. The era of the Atlantic being a two-horse race may be over.

Louisville does throw a curve ball in there although I would hardly consider them a rival like FSU despite what their fans think.
I would consider our rivals in order are:
1. USCjr 2. Tie between GT/FSU 3. NC State
Louisville is just another game. Until they start recruiting talent at least on Clemson's level they won't be too relevant going forward after Lamar leaves. No one is recruiting on FSU's level in the ACC yet.
