This thought / opinion really needed a post? No context except ..............?
I've seen 100's of similar threads but at least they gave reasons.

Player for bowling green committed to VT yet the coaches let him play. Spineless

Sometimes coaches take a new job but stick around to coach in the bowl game. It's basically the same thing. If the player didn't want to play in the bowl game, people would criticize him for that too. Bowling Green's coach was probably more concerned with winning the game than with trying to punish a player for acting in his own self-interest by taking a better job.

Maybe stop watching/commenting on it then?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think for your emotional well being it's time for you to find another hobby

Based on your hundreds of posts about how disgusted you are with college sports i can only surmise this his having a deleterious effect on your phsyche. For your sake and that of those who care about you maybe it's time to take up woodworking, water colors, bird watching...something less antagonizing.

Unless of course complaining over and over about the same thing is actually fun for you.

I totally agree

It used to be that I could watch any college football or basketball game with some interest. Now I can hardly watch any game that doesn’t involve Clemson…and even those are not the same. “The fill in the blank transfer qb completes the pass to the fill in the blank transfer wr, who is tackled by the fill in the blank transfer lb.” It is unwatchable. We are watching players instead of teams. They have no identity. Bowl season used to be a big thing in our family. Between transfers, opt outs, and now the playoffs, the remaining bowl games are terrible.

We have legendary coaches bailing out, because when they have any success at all, their players all say “show me the money”. And now we have pro coaches coming to college, bringing their GMs with them, and unapologetically saying they are going to run them like a pro team.

I will always love watching Clemson compete, but I no longer love watching college athletics. And no number of portal signings, NIL deals, or even titles for the Clemson football program is going to change that.

I have maybe one pro team in each league that I follow, but I have no passion about it. We lose, and I turnoff the TV and go about my life. I do not schedule my life around pro sporting events. I am sad to think that someday I may feel that way about college athletics, including Clemson, but it may happen. After big wins or losses, I often can’t sleep because I am so keyed up. Those times are now fewer and further between.

Seems only coach who fits the "legendary" status has retired, Saban. And he had won a zilion championships and was 72 years old.

I understand some of the complications NIL and the portal introduces, but when a team takes to the field, how much should it rally matter if the guy throwing the ball was a high school recruit and the guy who catches it transferred from another school?

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sure seems to matter to the commentators

You don’t hear that on NFL or MLB broadcasts

Coach K doesnt make the cut for legendary?

Dec 27, 2024, 9:34 AM [ in reply to Re: I totally agree ]

Sounds like by your definition, there can only ever be one legendary coach

I missed your comment about basketball. You make a good point about Coach K.

To each his own, but I choose to continue to watch and enjoy college football. If someone wants to give Carson Beck enough money to buy a Lamborghini, despite how unwise i may think it is to buy a Lamborghini, I'm not going to let that dampen my enthusiasm for the game.

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree with this. I never understand the "it's ruining the game" mindset, nor

Dec 27, 2024, 10:40 AM

the "I don't watch the NFL" because of similar thoughts. I tend to think you either like the game and your team who plays the game, or you don't, regardless of how players get to be on your team. I am SURE that if our team was competing at a little bit higher of a level, then a lot of these gripes magically would go away.

Go Tigers.
