It's quite another to run for re-election, especially keeping Kamala in place.
I'm hoping, without much hope, this is the pressure point Dems need to force Biden to end his campaign, and head into a brokered convention and pick a nominee that isn't Harris. You better believe the RNC is going to drag him with this using whatever money they have left in the coffers, and it will hurt him -- for good reason.

Also, given the fact that we don't know who is running the show, you don't know if they're trying to destroy democracy or not. This administration has certainly done a lot of fascisty things, particularly during covid.

I think both Biden and Trump are too old to be running, and I said as much back then. Whether or not they both have dementia or are senile, still hasn't been proven, but I'm fine with keeping 70+-year-old candidates from running for President. I said the same then, so this isn't the "gotcha" you and your sidekick think it is.

And I know you'll hate to hear it, for obvious reasons, but until Biden inspires an insurrection attempt, there's really no comparison between him and Trump in the "destroy democracy" department. But, we'll see how Biden (or whomever is actually running the show) handles things if he loses to Trump.

it probably would be better to just not say anything. Having to make up a situation to try to compare to a fact that we know to be true and proven just feels forced and desperate.
But even in your concocted situation, whoever is running the White House has not done anything to jeopardize democracy to the level that we KNOW Trump has (and has admitted to doing again) so even here your example is wrong.
But again, there's still time for Biden (or whomever) to show themselves to be the same threat as Trump, but it's laughable to make that argument right now.

A clearly cognitively impaired president, who is apparently too unwell to stand trial, is not a threat to our democracy (republic, really)? It’s not a stretch in the least to assume he is not making any of the decisions given his current state. So who is? If the population elects one guy, but someone else is actually running things behind the scenes, is that not ignoring the will of the people?

No more so than Reagan in his 2nd term or Trump in his first....

President administrations are not just one person making decisions and voters understand that. Most voters don't want dictators. We've had almost 4 years of Biden and Trump administrations to compare and contrast and in both cases, it's obvious both aren't up to the job personally. Neither should be President. But, since they will be our choices in November, I'll go with the mentally unfit President who hasn't already tried to overthrow our democracy over the mentally unfit President who has (and has already admitted to acting as a dictator on day one of his administration). It's really that simple.

If possible, pretend for just a second Trump doesn’t exist and Jan 6th never happened….then see if you can answer the question. Any sane person should agree that yes, electing a meat puppet with someone unknown pulling his strings is not good for “democracy”(even though we’re a republic).
You should probably also recognize your echo chamber did you a disservice in convincing you Biden was old but otherwise fit and did not have some form of dementia.

Yes, I think electing someone with diminished cognitive ability (or "meat puppet") would not be good for democracy and I hate that this can be applied as a possibility to both Biden and Trump. That's the issue you seem to be having is that you can't fathom that your question applies to BOTH candidates running, not just one. Listen to both men talk and it's impossible not to come to similar conclusions that both men are cognitively unwell. Your echo chamber drowns out any attempt at hearing that truth. I've called both old, and with major issues and I've said I wish both weren't running, but all you hear/read is a defense of Biden. It's telling.
Additionally, for the second condition of your question, there's always the threat of someone else pulling the strings, no matter the elected official's cognitive state. It's a conspiracy theory played against almost every candidate that's ever run that I can remember (e.g. Soros! or Koch Bros/Putin!). This is just obfuscation by the unknown meant to distract. Best to ignore it even if it has some built-in truth (i.e. no one wants some secret person/group running things) or at least wait to see some actual proof before running with it.
So, again, at the end of the day you have two candidates who both have cognitive deficiencies that make me worried, but only one of them has already proven to be a threat to our democratic principles, beliefs, and system and that makes the decision an easy one deciding which I'd rather have as President.
Simple.

Only one of us has seen to it to be able to criticize both candidates for their mental issues while the other one seems determined to ignore reality and only focus on their chosen talking points. Almost like there's some cognitive dissonance occurring that makes you uncomfortable with acknowledging certain truths. I wonder how that happened? I guess it'll have to stay a mystery...

I don’t highlight my support for a Biden presidency over a trump presidency as a matter or pride…only as proof of how strongly I feel that one is clearly less damaging to the country than the other. I guess you see it the other way…which I guess is fine as long as you can rationalize away your lack of character.

To not vote for either. You’re chest thumping about pulling the lever for a phantom administration. Do you think it’s healthy to have Trump so wrapped around your brain that you can literally say that any other person in this country, completely unknown to you, is a better choice?
The fact that you’re doubling down and “derr hurr still ain’t Trump” instead of thinking this is troubling and wondering who you did vote for is worrisome.

Brother…I’d vote for ‘candidate to be named later’ instead of Trump if I lived in a state where that vote mattered. That may be worrisome to you but that’s the type of threat that I think Trump poses and the lack of trust I have in a MAGA controlled party.

Biden needs to step aside. We’re about to reelect essentially a memory care patient.
Politically this is going to hurt Biden day after day.
He would have been better off to have been charged as he couldn’t be taken to court until out of office dead or alive.
Let’s see the spin docs spin this.

A memory care patient is getting elected if Biden and Trump run.
