You got to hand it to Dabo.

He may hire friends and family, but he sure keeps the coordinators accountable. He's not afraid to fire someone.
I mean, it must be difficult, but I like Dabo's aggressiveness now. I feel like the program is moving in the upward direction again.

Yeah I agree. It’s gotta be tough letting some of these friends and family go. Good dudes too

Goodwin was a colleague, not friend or family. He earned the chance but it simply did not work out. I don’t believe the success rate is very different for an inside hire vs an outside hire as it’s all a crap shoot

He gives people a chance. I don't fault him for that. Worked for Elliot and Scott and didn't for Goodwin and Streeter. Although Steeter did get handed DJU. He'll get it fixed. People act like he turns a blind eye to what we do wrong. He isn't stupid. He may be a little late pulling the trigger, but he does what needs to be done.

Problem is, they should have never been hired in the first place. Clemson literally could have had anyone in the country.

You're probably right. I think he wanted to preserve CBV's system.

But it turns out he couldn't replicate it.

That was the problem, Goodwin did the opposite of Cosxh V. We went from bringing constant pressure to bringing none, and even as dumb as bringing 2 or 3 man rush on 3rd down so the QB could have the rest of the qtr to make a decision. Goodwin got really bad in key situations

Wrong , both were qualified. Didn’t workout, so he moved on.

Huh? Wes was qualified to make a jump from an analyst to a DC - never having even been a position coach?

Was Dabo qualified to be head coach? Just didn't work out the way he hoped. Move on..

Yes he was. He just needed a chance to prove himself. Just as he let Goodwin try to prove himself. It didn't workout the way he anticipated, so he is making a move.

Dabo proved himself as an interim but he was definitely a very risky hire that worked out. Wes got himself a Christmas present. Stupid hire. Period.

Other than this year the defense has been fine and even 8th just last year.

It wasn’t a “stupid” hire. Yes, he gave the guy a chance as his defensive mind and experience in the game was enough. Dabo used his front end knowledge of Wes and his abilities. No one here knew Wes Goodwin like Dabo and the other coaches that wanted him.
In reality, it worked out well with the exception of this one season. The defense has not been a problem and in fact a case can be made that they were the major reason to continue their 2nd leading streak of 9+wins. This year saw issues.
Again, sometimes your hires don’t work out. Maybe Wes isn’t cutting the emotional end of coaching defense, I don’t know, but head coaches fire the very assistants they hired, every single year.
So by your logic, all head coaches make “stupid” hires. Very simplistic actually.

Sometimes your hires don’t work out, no matter where you get them. Coaches fire asst coaches they hired EVERY single year. Dabo ain’t perfect and he’s not immune to hiring someone who doesn’t quite get us where we need to be. No different than it’s been.

Seems like he is now.
Unlike you, I don't blindly applaud or defend a coach's every move. I am more of a Clemson fan and less of a Dabo sycophant.
I don't like throwing the fact that you show no objectivity about Dabo in your face, but if you want to come after me unprovoked, then so be it.
Happy New Year.

Just a dull, block shaped enigma of boot licking and bizarre trolls.
Me, you, Dabo, and PBT are all capable of waking up one morning and deciding to stink at what we do and refuse to admit it or change it. When we do that, we deserve criticism, when we change, we deserve positive words.
You seem to have multiple “Gods”. Hopefully Jesus himself, along with whoever happens to be coaching Clemson football.
