Cause if you knew any history as it concerns baseball you would know baseball umpire uniforms are traditionally blue. They used to wear blue shirts, jackets, and caps. The uniform has evolved in recent years to mostly black, but the “Blue” nickname has stuck.

It’s weird enough to call them by the color they are wearing.
But even worse to call them by the wrong color.

No (imo). It has always been a ‘term’ used to address a baseball (and softball) umpire. No different than ‘ribby’, ‘the bump’, ‘no no’, and other nicknames used in the game played on the ‘diamond’.
