These guys questioning who the staff recruits/offers...
Jan 18, 2016, 5:03 PM
|
|
We just played in the NC game, and recruiting is getting better year in and year out. If Dabo offers some kid he sees walking down the street, so be it. The man has this program to a level not seen since the '80's, and it's only getting better folks. There are articles out actually asking if this Clemson offense could be the best of all time, and people are still questioning the staffs decisions? Just read an article today, saying we have 3 of the top 16 players coming in next year, and that doesn't even include Feaster! If Dabo wants to offer the sons of former Tigers, so be it! The man knows what's best for Clemson, let him do his job.

So you're telling me that if Rashaun Gary the #1 recruit for 2016 wanted to come play at Clemson and could make an immediate impact but we have our last available scholarship to a legacy recruit that won't see the field and only because of something his father did in the 90's, you'd be okay with that? I mean, loyalty is a beautiful thing but there has to be limits, in my opinion(which I am sure you'll be glad to tell me how stupid I am and how Iam a terrible fan Bu I just do t get it.

get it. But, you do raise an interesting point. If this continues, 3 and 4 stars will need to decide they're all in earlier to guarantee their spot b/c we won't hold it for long.

At the expense of who? That's the real question. If legacy recruits are golden, who do we cut out of a scholarship...Andy Teasdall? Hunter Renfrow? Greg Huegel? If legacy recruits are our life blood, then who gets shafted for a kid or kids riding in on daddy's coat tails....the same behavior we laugh at the coots for....just make me understand. Brian Dawkins can afford to send his kid to college, so let him. A legacy should mean a no-cut situation from the team, that's more than generous.

immwdiately and therefore fill a need on the team. We could have the next Renfrow out there somewhere.
These guys are also probably good for team chemistry...and who knows...they could have a stud brother or son come along eventually...

Renfrow walked-on and EARNED his scholarship. He wasn't given anything because of his last name
Renfrow enrolled in June 2014 and redshirted last season. On Aug. 15, 2015 Swinney awarded him a scholarship

I wasn't saying they are the same. I'm saying that walk-ons and legacy kids can develop into good players

From what I see, it is not a guarantee that a legacy gets a scholarship offer. (Spiers, punter - preferred walk on) With that being said, ultimately Dabo's tail is on the line so if he feels comfortable offering a legacy then so be it.

Tgrlvr1989, I think your point would be more than valid IF

you could show one time where we ever lost a 4 or 5 star, much less number one recruit in the country due to one of our legacies. Hasn't happened and won't. Dabo knows what he's doing and I guarantee he has a scholarship for him if he wants one. And, I think Dabo is a great coach, but if he has one area that he absolutely excels in, this is it. Trust him.

Ok....great point. Maybe I am concerned over something that isn't even on the concern "radar". I'll just sit on my hands, you made a great point loving it, thanks for you kind and courteous response, it was refreshing! And yes, I am being honest, refreshing!

Shouldn't the coaches sons walk-on ? They make plenty of money so they can afford it . Why waste scholarships on walk-on type players?
Imagine if we gave out these five scholarships to OL and DB over the last couple of years
Davis: LB No D1 offers other than Clemson
Davis: LB No D1 offers other than Clemson
Amir Trapp: DB No D1 offers other than Clemson
Dawkins: DB No D1 offers other than Clemson
Greenlee: Came in as a LB now a TE. No D1 offers other than Clemson

You both bring up good points. But, name a quality recruit
Jan 18, 2016, 5:49 PM
|

we didn't get because of a Legacy. Can you? I think we've taken the quality recruits that we wanted and that wanted us. I don't remember ever telling a talent no we don't have enough room for you. But, I am willing to accept evidence to the contrary.

Do you just randomly attack people you have absolutely no knowledge about much? We disagree, that's it and a differing opinion brings out that response in you? Either you have an unreasonable affinity for our Coaches or you're just angry. Either way, you're scary, seriously. I'll try to keep a low profile here until you calm down.

So they are not just being given spots on the team, they are being given spots on the field.
