Just a broad observation

Nov 26, 2012, 10:37 AM

Clemson is typically a football school so this lost hurts a lot more than it should and traditionally for us that remember Clemsons domination over USC our responses are not overreactions but a built in tradition thats has now seen those days gone by. Well our school has been manhandled by USuC in pretty much all sports. The problem is deeper than football and we need to correct it all. We have the highest paid asst in the country, great programs want to learn and train with great head coaches. Dabo is trying to buy his job security and its showing, just an example. Clemson needs to get this fixed our athletic program is in decline and may have some good times but not as a whole. USuC was very bad off almost beyond repair and has spent less money and have passed us. Wake up!!!

USC has spent millions, and I mean MILLIONS, more than us

I understand your point and mostly agree, but don't think for a second that they are spending less money than we are.

ok understood, but we do have the highest paid asst in college football. agreed? I believe Dabo has played to his strength and recruited Chad and Brent and those were great hires. I feel just like our team at times he fails to inspire them or lead them when close games come along and we need a leader to take the reigns. he falls short. IMO

You are correct about our staff.

Only thing we lack is toughness, whether it be mental or physical. And that is on the head coach, no doubt.

I think Dabo knows about toughness. He did plany at Alabama. He's learning on the job and will get there sooner than later.

It's the whole ### thing.

BOT, Barker, Athletic Department leadership, it goes on down the line. But hey, we have a great gameday atmosphere for our opponents.

I think 63-17 had a lot to do with the change in attitude. .

USC has taken with its athletics. I grew up in Greenville in the 70's and early 80's. We were NCSU fans but had season tickets to Clemson as it was the only entertainment at the time. I went to Carolina but have never hated Clemson as I spent many a Saturday of my childhood playing pick up football on the backside of Death Valley (and sliding on cardboard boxes). Had Clemson not been thirty minutes from my house and was strong in my field of study, I would have likely attended.

I always heard that the biggest factor in Clemson turning its athletic programs around was the 56-20 game in which USC scored on every possession, including a toss into the endzone at the end of the game. I have been told of a meeting by Clemson officials after that game where a commitment was made to never have that happen again. Before that game, the rivalry was pretty dead even. We all know what happened over the next 30 years.

I know of a similar meeting at USC. The adminstration decided to finally commit to athletics rather than to treat them as a glorified social event-and they have put their money where their mouths are. Buildings have gone up, stadiums have been built. Being in the SEC has raised the bar to keep up with the rest of these guys. I think for Clemson to get where it wants to be, it needs to be in a conference that thrives on football rather than the final four.
