Real Clemson football fan?
For me, it is when I hear them say "I pull for both teams as a long as they're not playing each other".

I'm pretty sure we are talking about current day. If you want to go back decades or longer, these answers would be very different.
Kind of like how none of the current students know that there were gun racks in the tin cans.

I don't get real vs nonreal. I mean I get it. I might use the term thoroughbred vs hybrid Clemson fan vs a halfbreed Clemson fan. The fact is if we really want Clemson football to grow we have to get alot of fans that did not go to school at Clemson. A study at Duke found that only a third of college football fans ever attended the school. We would be delusional to think Clemson is the exception. We'd also be shooting ourselves in the foot to not welcome anyone that wants to be a hyrid fan.
The fact is one of the most rabid Clemson fans I know graduated from Carolina. He is a true hyrid fan and says things like "I hate my wife for loving a Carolina grad".
The half-breed is what I think you are talking about. They say things like "I don't care who it is I just want a team from South Carolina to do well, but I root for Clemson first".
I went to school at Bob Jones. We did not have football so who could I be a fan of? I chose Clemson because Clemson is friggin awesome. Bob Jones disavowed me BTW. They actually refused to let me join their alumni association because the disagreed with my religious affiliation. Let's not be like Bob Jones...Okay?
Okay..Y'all can rag on me now...Lol

Well it's like this. I wanted to go to school out of State...I grew up in Maine. The only school my parents would allow me to go to is BJU. I went along fairly well and got into a scuffle in Bible doctrines class my senior year when I asked for Biblical proof supporting their "separation of the races doctrine" that they have since disavowed. I also came from a reformed Baptist church and challenged their free will doctrine. I was a last semester senior...up to that point they only talked about "hyper-Calvinists" which I knew I was not. I realized that they lumped all people with a reformed understanding of salvation into that one group. I was told I could hold my beliefs but to not bring them up in class anymore. I challenged that with the fact the the Apostles said they could not help but speak about the truth. They almost kicked me out right then, but somehow it worked out to let me graduate...then they cut the cord..

I understand that you have a different view on what they teach, and that's fine. Could you do me a favor and t-mail me your view on the difference between what the U teaches on "Freewill" and the view of reformed theology? I am not asking this to try to refute you; I'm a Christian but I've struggled to understand what "Reformed" really means. My view on Christianity is salvation by grace through faith plus nothing that manifests itself visibly in the life of the believer.
Again, I am NOT trying to get into a debate or a fight; I just want better understanding. I grew up in Taylors and was baptized in an independent Baptist church with a lot of BJU people. Nearly every one of them I knew were sincere and devout; not hypocrites and not legalists. The pastor of that church was a BJU grad and he preached against the "inside the gate" legalism that alienated so many people who didn't grow up in that culture.

While I do have a degree (81), I don’t agree with needing a Clemson degree to be a Clemson Football Fan. My dad (passed in 2020), was a huge Clemson Football Fan. He graduated from Iowa State, moved to SC and had 3 children go to Clemson. He was a better fan than most Clemson grads.

Right after the commencement, she came up to us and said, "That Guy That They Gave The Standing Ovation For (Spiller), Was In Some Of My Classes." I was like....You have to be kidding me. Not all grads are into it, like some of us that went to other schools are Totally Into Clemson!
