What do you suggest is a good bourbon to always have on hand to pour for company (close company) when they visit?

Then, buy something cheaper and pour it in the bottle.

with a mid range bourbon such as Woodford or Elijah Craig. Most people can't tell much difference.

Can’t go wrong with some Buffalo Trace. Cheap and delicious.
The bottle don’t say it, but it’s aged for 7 to 8 yrs. So not too bad for $30.

You buy booze in North Carolina. The prices are state controlled (ABC). Considerably higher in most South Carolina stores. Greene Beverage is a good place
If you’ve never been to Frugal McDougles in Charlotte it’s a good stop! Right on the state line at carowinds,

IF you really want to impress try to find a bottle of Pappi Van Winkle. It will set you back a little. May have to give up all the other Christmas gifts!
I may have a bottle next Friday. I’ll have to sell a few acres of land to buy it !

Seriously. The best grade of Henry McKenna is hard to beat for the money.
I have 67 fifths of bourbon in my Tiger Man Cave Bar Blantons, Buffalo, Basil Hayden, are all top shelf. And there are many more.

Mixing or straight?

If mixing, Evan Williams bottled in bond. It gets universal good reviews and is cheap.
Agree with others, Woodford as a crowd pleaser for drinking straight.

I a really good buy if you can find it. It was less than $20 a bottle and compared favorably to Buffalo Trace to me.

Evan Williams white label. You may have to dig under the couch cushions for the extra sheckles..

Woodford Reserve is my standard for guests. If I really like you I may break out something better.
JFYI, my everyday cheap bourbon is Evans Williams mixed 3 parts black label 86 proof with 1 part Evans Williams Honey 65 proof premixed and stored in a decanter in the refrigerator.

Just kidding.
Woodford Reserve and Maker’s Mark are always good, solid bourbons. Angel’s Envy is a similar price point and underrated in my opinion.
Jefferson’s Ocean Aged is fun and always good for conversation.
If you want to step up a bit in price, Blanton’s is very good.

What’s wrong with Maker’s Mark? A guest that would complain about that should go find a boutique hotel in which to spend the evening.
