First Black athlete on scholarship was in 1969. He was a track star. Don't remember his name but we were in the same study hall.

yep campus was crawling with highway patrol and reporters. National guard had a helicopter flying over campus 24/7. I was there, nothing happened. Reporters were so disappointed ...

respectful and well mannered. As an 7th grade "townie", I was there watching. There had been a good bit of trepidation because of what had happened earlier at other southern schools, but to Clemson's lasting credit, Harvey Gantt's enrollment was totally uneventful.

but here goes. 99% of the buildings in the South named for people who stood for prejudice and segregation, I support keeping their current names. One example is Strom Thurmond H.S. where I graduated from.
Tillman is the exception. He came to power by intimidating blacks with murder and violence during Reconstruction to keep political power.
Tillman was more similar to Hitler/Mussolini than Strom Thurmond or George Wallace or Robert E. Lee even.
