Yep - I take that as a good sign. You know he's super

talented from a purely physical standpoint - so when we've got 3 or 4 better than him (at this point), that's a very good sign.

Could avoid the redshirt still. Could just be Dabo telling him to check his privilege at the door, and let's get to work.

I thought Shaq was depth at the olb posistion behind bowleware they made it sound like he is our middle backer. I feel like he would be a force there next year under bens mentorship. If he's not ready redshirt unless needed to craft his skills

I honestly don't think I have ever read or heard Dabo say that about a true freshman....

Sammy was the last I remember

Even Deshaun needed to gain weight. But Sammy was the last "ready-made-out-of-the-box" true frosh he mentioned.

I was shocked to read this i thought for sure Shaq would be ready to add depth to the linebacker position... But the coaches know best...hopefully the light bulb will cut on for him and he can provide depth... but def dont want to waste a year if a guy is not ready

Who is backing up Ben??? Jalen Williams. Nothing against Jalen but Shaq needs to beet him out on athleticism alone

Jalen is a missile... He really is a heck of a player. I think of Shaq in the same light as Stephone Anthony. He had all the ability in the world, but it took a while for the game to slow down for him and for him to become the monster we saw late in his career. Jalen will provide solid reps in a backup role this year. Shaq will probably play. I think some of this is motivation from Dabo, but he certainly could benefit from not having to be in there early in big pressure moments.

Hope he doesn't decide to transfer. 5* guys usually are

used to being the man and being told what they want to hear, especially if other schools are "sending" word through other sources that he could transfer to them, sit out this year and be the man as soon as spring semester starts. Hopefully he has a strong character that he can realize that our coaches can develop talent as good or better than anyone in the country and he will keep working and pushing to reach his full potential to be as awesome as we all know he can.

He could transfer but don't think he will. Players choose a college for many reasons and I'm confident Shaq chose Clemson for the right reasons other than immediate playing time. Besides, if he transfers and sits out a year at another school he will be further behind than taking a redshirt year working in the same system his has started to learn at Clemson. I imagine Shaq knows the deal and sees that competition at this level is much different than high school. I have no doubt he will be an eventual starter and a big time impact player down the road - it just may take another year for him to get in the groove of the college game and system at Clemson.

Kid is gifted for sure. He was practicing with third string on Saturday morning. Hope he stays patient and does what coaches ask of him.

Just ask Kevin Dodd 1 year start and guaranteed($$$,$$$+) or walk-on Hunter Renfrow resume building performance in the National Championship game ($$ and building)

But it would be his choice to make. I trust our coaches to make the best decision for this year and the recruiting to replace an individual that had an all about me attitude if such as you worry about exist. I don't think it does. I think Shaq has already seen what level this football team is and expects his turn to come soon enough when he is fully ready.

To me the surprise was Chad being a special teamer, with Tre already ahead of him.
Lends me to beleive either ...
1. Tre must be the real deal
Or
2. Chad has not been maturing and working out like he needs to be. Hard to focus on football when ur girls that hot I reckon
Probably a little of both

Kid can absolutely fly for someone his size. Think Luke Kuechly. That's who Tre can become.

K'Von was a 2 or 3 star prospect , right ? Our evaluation of players has to be about the best in the country . This staff always seems to find a kid or two that went below value , that were being overlooked by many .
I still think Shaq Smith plays this year , maybe fill in right away but once the mental edge develops within him I believe he is the beast he looks like in his HS films .
